Blaster Master Zero 3: Leibniz Boss Fight

Peak character arc.
I think this is my favorite boss fight in video games as a whole. Thematically, presentationally, conceptually, and in practice there's not a single part of it that wasn't designed and executed flawlessly.

Leibniz is a Viera. Huh. Who would have guessed that?

Dude, that reveal was epic. I'm so glad I didn't look up spoilers for this game, because man... the way they destroyed our precognitions was epic.

The zipping around sound effect just never gets old. It really sells how fast she is actually going in Rising Garuda.

This is the hardest Boss fight in the game mainly because of his unpredictable pattern

Bro I forgot just how fast she was. Took me forever to beat. Honestly harder than the last boss. Tho I only played as jason.

I actually discovered that you can destroy at most 3 of those lightning rods that Rising Garuda deploys with the pilot, which can potentially drop Health or Energy Drops! This makes it a bit easier to unload on Rising Garuda to ensure that the fight does get too lopsided.

Hate to burst peoples’ bubbles, but Leibniz is still a dude.

I have the Trilogy Set with voice acting and... yeah he sounded more like a dude than he EVER did in the other scenes.

And this isn’t some “he/she/they identify as____” thing. Like unless you’re Utada Hikaru(congrats to them for coming out btw), the Gender conversation here in Japan isn’t exactly the same as it is in the West.

Really, this boss fight was so epic, that it already felt like a final showdown in of itself.

Man, I love the Leibniz reveal. I mean when she says all those mean spirited things during the second and third games, you kind of get the idea she's a dude. Not saying women can't be that cruel, but I love how the games just play with your preconceptions. But hell, I mean the third game's ending kind of does that on multiple levels.

Thank you so much for this, really had trouble learning the pattern but you nailed it.

Huh. So leibniz is a woman. Not what I was expecting. Honestly my theory was that leibniz was actually the support droid for Garuda, and that the actual pilot died fighting the mutants. I'm kind of disappointed that's not the case

its one of the best scenes they ever did cuz of Leibniz revealing that its a she.

This boss is easy once you get its pattern off. If you consistently hit homing while its open, you take out a big chunk of hp from it. Also save one thunder for when he does his finisher.. hit him while hes doing the rising jet slash.. protip
