I use isolation movements and close grip benching for triceps. Love them both. 💪❤️🏋️‍♀️

That was a good point you brought up Jason that a compound lift will sometimes do a better job than an isolation exercise. LIKE I've done various isolations for the Long head of my triceps, but through my experience nothing works better for me than the good old fashioned chin-up.

Can weighted dips if done correctly to bias the tris be a substitute for the close grip and will weighted dips biasing the tris work the long head?

What are your thoughts on the J.M. press? I find it’s great for tricep development and strength. Keeping my elbows high gives me an amazing, long ecentric. When I can’t press the bar back up with the JM, I move the elbows down into a close grip position to press it back up, and just repeat the JM ecentric. Great for going deeper into failure.

As someone who is short, I naturally have a close grip bench. My triceps get ridiculously bigger. I know it means less activation for my chest, but sometimes you just got to do what makes you feel good.

I find it interesting on the way you pump some of these movements. This was a standard thing I've seen in old bodybuilding videos and it requires a lot of control to stablize. You don't see that anymore with the whole Full ROM Rules being preached. Also you got that to stablizing down to perfection. The other day I tried and it was difficult to execute as smooth. -Mountain! ⛰️💪

I use the Smith machine to do this. As with everything Smith machine, positioning the body is the variable to play with: move forward (towards feet) for triceps, back (towards head) for inner chest. Thanks for all your content...!

I always do close grip, mainly because I am not as strong on bench with a wide grip. I tried wide grip before but the exercise to me felt more like wasting time and not as effective as close grip. I can lift heavier and hit more muscle groups with the close grip.

Don`t really do close grip bench all too often but I like doing it immediately after hitting failure with lying triceps extensions. It is a great way of bringing the triceps deeper into failure imo. I have also been playing around with the dumbbell version you showed us years ago that is somewhat of a modified version of the close grip bench. Almost like a skullcrusher to the chest, do you still do that one?

Speaking of triceps, I added in some heavy pushdowns yesterday but today my triceps aren't sore at all. My lats are sore for some reason though. I did very strict form, only the elbow moving, felt the triceps working while doing the movement, yet they are not sore at all today. Should I keep the movement in? (side note: i got a really good pump from it during the workout)

Another great version is to do a close grip military press. Famous assistance exercise for world class bencher McDonald in 70s. I love it. Do it standing or sitting and you can get different effects by the upward plane angle you raise weight

I feel like it's good to vary the tricep exercises and angles. Even just with cable pushdowns, do some with an arcing motion (elbows in) and some more like a standing close-grip press (elbows out). Different angles with target and grow different parts of the muscle groups, so I definitely suggest playing around and including different things.

It's pretty hard to get to the long head of the triceps without inadvertently bringing in the lateral head and some measure of shoulders/chest, especially in the compound. I do CGBP from the pins as a sort of JM Press only because it offers a similar stretch to behind the head skull crushers with a pressing movement. As such it's gentler on the elbows than a straight up skull crusher. I also use a regular CGBP on another day. About 25 years ago I used both CGBP and weighted dips as assistance exercises for getting a better BP, which always lagged due to triceps lockout issues..

I like to use an ez-curl bar for my close grip benches!! That exercise, and dips totally changed my triceps for the better.
Isolation exercises are ok for finishing, and "feel" but if you want mass you need to stick to compound (natural) movements!!

What do u think about pull up or chin up are better than curls for biceps because they are compound exercises. There are some atheletes with great biceps even though they do not do curls

I like the ez bar skullcrusher + cgb combo

And i know ct fletcher may not be natural but he used the lying dumbbell skullcrushers a lot for his triceps, enhanced or not they were a strong part of his body composittion.
