Big problem with YT is that it's system of monetization and generally transformation of video creation into legit career encourages this. Content creators are encouraged to drag out their videos because of ad revenue. On top of that you must add constant reminders about Likes, Subscribtion etc and promotional bits that are parts of videos that are not actual content and it's becoming kinda grim.
The videos are getting longer but the content density is dropping hard in exchange for literal filler and parts that are there just because "uhhh I wunt to maek mone".

I think Quinton's videos are justifiably long despite the subject matter. Each episode is a full-on variety show with dedicated segments that never leave me bored. And because of those segments, it's very easy to stop watching after a segment ends, and pick it up later. It's just fun, and while I think a lot of people make videos too long, Quinton's are always a blast.

I prefer the shorter long form videos. They’re usually more focused and have better editing than the hour or multiple hours long videos, and I’ve also got more stuff I’d like to do rather than consume content all day, but I still do that anyway, these videos just make it harder to stop.

Honestly I sometimes I willingly look for a several hour long videos because I want something in the background and switching from video to video is annoying and exhausting, I rather just watch a single video that goes in depth and feels coehesive, like a long podcast but actually good and interesting.

Im more so a fan of 1-3 hour vids because i know that ill be watching it over the course of a few days and it gives me something to think about. But if a vid is 30-40 mins i probably won't finish it because there's not enough to come back to if I watched most the video

Mauler broke the Quintonian's mind, so I'm 99% sure he only makes videos so long and full of misinfo as an attempt to mock the long man.

I actually disagree that the hbomberguy video needed to be that long. The James Somerton section is 2 hours long, or half the length off the video, and as a result I didn’t bother to watch any of it despite watching most of the last 2 hours.

For me personally, I'll always enjoy watching a multi hour video if the topic in question of course interests me is entertaining all the way through. I love Schaffrillas hour long ranking videos because of his humor and editing style, he really gives it his all in almost every section in the ranking and express his likes and dislikes without actually feeling like you're just listening to a guy ramboling for hours. But there are also channels out there create up to 5 hour videos on topics that just don't need that much explanation and often feel like a slog to get through if Im watching it in the background.

The best thing is playing a non-involved game that you don’t have to think too hard about or drawing and listening to these long video essays at the same time.

That's an interesting take on Monumentality. It's a contender for my favorite video essay of all time. Basically for the same reasons you brought up (plus the insane energy and vibe of the video), but the issues brought up don't bother me personally.

Honestly, I think the super long videos are usually easier to digest passively, like driving for instance, where the ideas being conveyed have a lot of time to fester in your mind, instead of autoplay rolling the next video and you're not really in the position to be manually selecting videos, and the ideas of the last one have already been forgotten.
I still watch the same amount of regular length videos, just usually in front of a computer and not one after another automatically.

Honestly, in my eye, the more short form "yt shorts, tiktok, and Instagram reels" pop up, more longform content is gonna follow in its wake. its gonna even out at some point, and as a fan as longform content, I'm glad.

I do enjoy vids up to 90 mins, but these 3+ hour essays can be annoying.
Especially when they cant review a TV show without narrating every episode in the series...........
In a way, making it longer is more lazy, as they couldn't prioritize whats important to share or not.

see I definitely Agree, but I also feel like there's a conflation of All long form content with video essays, which creates expectations that some videos aren't trying to meet.

quinton's videos aren't for everybody, absolutely not, but from the beginning the point was in quinton's own journey with these shows. the point Is Absolutely in just watching his experiences in revisiting, research, and creation of the videos. and that's not For everyone, but it feels like people think it's Failed to be a video essay when it was never trying to be in the first place.

if you don't click with quinton's delivery or if you're waiting for him to Get To The Point then you're really not going to have a good time with the series, but I watch those videos and I don't feel time pass at all. hbomb has the same effect on me even if their videos have a different kind of appeal.

the appeal of quinton's nickverse series is listening to your friend gush about something that's taken over their life for the past month until you fall asleep.
