You sharpen the same way I do... very cool. People tell me all the time that I am sharpening wrong. If I can shave is it the wrong way... lol... Muhalo my friend.

Good tips, I like that stone a lot; seems high quality compared to other pocket sized stones. When I am sharpening using a small stone like that I prefer to hold the blade steady and move the stone, but this is really just personal preference, it really doesn't matter with smaller knives but i think moving the stone makes sharpening a big blade (like a machete) with a small stone much easier.

if you haven't seen it, check out a video on "adventure time outdoors" channel that he put up in the last few days. He made a little sharpening block for a dc4 and strop.

I use the circle method like that on thick bevels, but thinner blades I'll sweep the stone. Really depends what is more natural. Good video!

Wow seems like a lot of us learned the same technique. I learned it at my Grandad's side in the late 60's. Has worked for me for over 46 years now from deserts to mountains to the Alaskan 'wilds'. Thanks for sharing with us and please keep up the good work. 'Stay safe keep warm have fun & whittle to keep your sanity'.

Hi Gabe,
I also have DC 4 and sharpen my knives almost the same way you do! In the end your knife should be sharp without having ruined and scratched the blade, am I right?! There isn't the Golden Way, only your personal best way!
Have a good time,
Greetings from Germany,

Oli

Do you actually put a large angle micro bevel on purpose?

Say Heah Gabie, Aloha. Thanx You, I do like using my A-1 and H=1 especially in wet conditions. A top shelf combo. The H-1 is very similar to my Skookum Bush Tool. A little thicker but a very good slicer. But I also can use my DC4 on my new S. O. G. Pillar, Again, Mahalo, Gabie.,,.p

Some folks talk about the DC4 diamond side wearing quickly and the fine side loading up with material. I have been reluctant to get one but the concept is very good.

Thanks for the excellent video!
