Am I the only one who would rather hear the machines instead of the music?

Seriously, pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't cast iron sleeves eliminate the possibility of future bore scoring? Just diving into this subject due to Grandsons latest project. But aluminum piston in an aluminum cylinder has been problematic from the first design using an aluminum block with raw or coated aluminum bores.

How does the new cylinder stay/get fastened to the block?

Is this similar to what Hartech does? Do you also create "grooves" to evenly cool the engine block? Also, would this eliminate all the regimen necessary to keep Lokasil treated bores from getting scored (which quite frankly is ridiculous, i.e. driving the car right away after a cold start, plus no short drives, etc.)?

Just wondering whether,in essence,is there a mod to be done in order to prevent the problem from coming about on a high mileage 997 engine which is still working properly...Thanks !

I will never understand how Porsche could create/construct such a shitty engine in the first place? Hans Mezger was in charge of them. Although the Turbos don´t have these problems, they have spun camshafts instead! :( And Porsche is supposed to be the best in the world?!

What makes the insert stay in place and not allow coolant to migrate into the block where the "sleeve lip" meets the shortened cylinder?

Why do you glue the sleeves and not use an interference fit? Is that because of poor block integrity? Would you use interference on an LS, Mercedes or other V8’s? You are relying on the head gasket fire ring to stop the sleeves rocking?

I have a M119 Mercedes engine with a Alusil Cylinder finish. I would like to bore and stroke it but it rely’s on iron sprayed pistons. Could I get you to sleeve my Mercedes Block?

Great video, thanks LN! I assume you don't have a European partner for this work (I'm in The Netherlands)?
I'm also curious why in practice I see several Turbo's with Nikasil coated cylinders with this issue as well. What's your thoughts on that?

Brw, the bore scoring page you linked to doesn't list the Cayenne.

Thanks again!
