Whenever I see Hopkins, or have him come to 🧠 mind, I immediately think of Diego de la Vega

He*s very talented. Exceptionally talented to b lector and trainer of Alejandro in mask of Zorro which is a pretty easy 10 on a 1-10 scale in my honest opinion

Jonathan Demme's direction in this film is so well done. The actors did their jobs but his close ups, how the faces filled the screen made it seem so intimate. When Clarise is walking around and the camera is on Hannibal it follows her movements like you're her staring at him. Master-class in direction.

What book is Hannibal reading?

I first saw this movie when it came out back in 91 and during this scene the theater was completely silent, as if everyone was holding their breath. No surprise they both won Oscars.

The way the music gets more intense with the dialogue is done perfectly. No movie is able to create as much tension as Silence of the Lambs.

Love his mention of Marcus Auralius one of the five good roman emperors
There was a sense of stoic philosophy in his speech too

Fun fact this scene was almost wrecked in the beginning because a sound guy dropped a screw driver in the start of the scene. If you listen closely in the opening dialog you’ll hear it hit the ground.

Jodi and Anthony just kept going luckily.

I just noticed something. The very beginning, when Clarice first walks in, the one cop immediately gets up and leaves. He went to Chilton to snitch her out.
That’s why Lecter tortured him. He was a paid rat.

Writing "you don't own the footage", seems a little odd to me. What are you trying to serve writing that? If you're infringing on copyright, you want to downplay that, not proclaim it.

I Truly Love This Scene. Hannibal Lector may be a Cannibal and Serial Killer but he is still a Therapist. I think in his Hannibal Lector’s Twisted Mind he was Trying to help Clarice and free her from her Trauma. Anthony Hopkins and Jody Foster were Truly Legendary Together.

I think Dr. Lecter had the "gift" to spot the darkness in others before he consumed it (and them). But when he reached the core of Clarice's soul, he found light instead. That's why he thanked her, for showing him something he hadn't seen before.
That's what his escape right after that symbolizes -his escape from the perception that everyone is evil deep inside. In a way, it gave him hope.

In the book there's another animal, a mare, which Clarice manages to save. She lives in another farm until she's 22 and dies just before the events of the book/film.

Hopkins' tone and inflection as he probes for more information here is so masterful. You can really hear Lector's anticipation. He wants so badly to see what's inside, and is thrilled by her honesty.
