ОтветитьI have to disagree when you claim that Dostoyevsky would agree that “Christianity and Idealism left us to fail.” It’s clear that, with his general theme of inevitable redemption and acceptance of conscience, that Dostoyevsky believe that the Christian faith is the only thing to save us now. He constantly writes about the Church and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross in order for our salvation. In Brothers Karamozov, Alyosha and Ivan’s discussion about the Grand Inquistor can be used as evidence that the church is set up to fail; however that is a twisted view of Ivan’s incredible poema. As Ivan finishes telling his poema to his brother, he is left asking “are you going to disown me because of it?”(referencing his idea that “all things are lawful) Alyosha responds to his question by simply saying nothing and, Like Christ in Ivan’s poema, simply kisses his brother on the lips, showing his unconditional love for his brother. It’s Dostoyevsky’s belief that, although we may reject Christ as a society and act sinful, our rationality can never explain God’s unconditional love for us. Dostoyevsky’s inclusion of redemption in his novels points out his main theory of Christianity and society as a whole: no matter what reason brings us to, we can always be redeemed through Christ.
ОтветитьKeep on trying, like David the robot of AI movie! Follow the Blue Berry find her and sit infront of her asking the impossible, in 3000 years maybe a superior intelligence finds your DNA and Bingo! Look what a resilent being! A proof of the greatest insanity that humans made! Keep on trying! 🙄🤥😁
ОтветитьStruggle is definitely important, but I don't believe in finalized statements like we can never be truly happy without sabotage. Dostoevsky was right when he's saying we don't know ourselves. THAT is precisely what makes us UNHAPPY. Rejecting certain parts of ourselves and embracing at times perhaps the lesser qualities. I think the path to stable bliss is letting go of control for the most part and DOING what FEELS, right. Regardless of our fears or others judgements. That's THE WAY.
ОтветитьShould I read Dostoevsky in Russian or English?

ОтветитьHow about adding a spoiler alert for those that want to experience “Crime and Punishment”?
ОтветитьIf Only we Listened to Buddha's 1st tenet.
ОтветитьI don't think Dostoevsky is saying "Christianity sets us up to fail." If that was the case we would have rejected his religion; which he never did...
ОтветитьNu i ai citit cartile!....si ai citat din romanul" Amintiri din casa mortilor", nicidecum din " Idiotul", roman in care sunt descrise ultimile clipe din viata lui....inainte de a i dezbate "filozofia lui despre viata, incearca sa il citesti, formeaza ti o parere, opinie personala....si invata sa pronunti corect numele autorului si al personajelor sale....good luck!
ОтветитьEveryone always describes Russian literature as showing you truths about how to live. My take away has always been first and foremost “living in Russia really sucks”. Like wow living in Russia no matter the time period always sucks.

ОтветитьI love how people forget that Dostoevsky was an Orthodox Christian, and think he criticized Christianity as a whole. He wasn't. He was criticizing Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. He doesn't think that "Christianty sets us up to fail", not by a long shot. He is not against the idea of God or faith, just the ideas of God and faith that exist in the west, that false dichotomy of Protestant vs Catholic.
Like always, people will gladly make things suit their own worldview.
For anyone wondering Orthodox Christianity is as, if not more, differnt from Protestantism and Roman Catholicism as they are from each other.
You say that Dostoevsky promoted the idea that Christianity failed us, was Dostoevsky not a devout Christian his whole life. And judging by the brothers Karamazov I think its quite clear he holds christianity in high regard to say the least.
ОтветитьI like how you remove faces
ОтветитьIt is better to be unhappy and know the worst, than to be happy in a fool's paradise.

ОтветитьI've been studying his works since 1990. I reread them often. Each time I think I learn something new. Then I realize I need another 30 years. This cat has been in my head that long. Genius.
