I had a 98 just like that one. I was the original owner, 155k miles.
The Automatic Transmission was awful. I went through the original transmission, then I had two replacements, rebuilt & replaced under Honda warranty, which had to be rebuilt, and the gearing was never the same. Traded in on a 2004 Accord 3.0 V6 240 hp, which was wonderful.

Just because you love your car, dont try to keep it when the transmission is CRAP, trade it in the first chance you get. Evidently they never improved the Automatic Transmission throughout the 5th Generation run. 😖

I love this car but you can see why this was its last year- for less money you could have had the accord coupe ex v6 which had all power leather seats, bigger engine, more space, seating for 5, more creature comforts and quite similar performance. Not to mention the new civic coupe that arrived that year for a fraction of this prelude's cost . :/

I own this with low km and love it. Caution: the timing belt absolutely cannot be overlooked and is a very pricey service. Worth it though.

What's a good price to sell one if it has 75k miles on it?

DO NOT...I repeat... DO NOT USE the red key. It will ruin and reset the ECU and erase your other keys for the car. That red key is only to be used to reset your car keys if you lose them. I learned this the hard way ($900 fix ECU and reset).

I have never been a fan of Honda their styling has gotten better over the years but not enough for me to go out and buy one now matter how great people say it reliability is. But the this particular model is the only one that I've ever liked. My music Teacher had a Brand new one back in the day 1993 I wasn't crazy about that body style but this one I'd buy it today. Use it as a 2nd car. Good review on it

It's also rare to see these kinds of cars stock nowadays unless it belonged to a little old lady who drove it to the grocery store and back

It's positively Cruel that the JDM Models have stock Automatic Climate Control & Navigation :P

I never did understand the JDM Models with features unavalible on the American models.

Or a coupe styled liftback/hatch. The practicality and versatility of an RSX/integra, or older Eclipse and Celica amazes me each time I have a friend that uses them to move furniture and such!

back in 2001, my buddy had one of these brand new and I had a stock 90 Toyota Supra Turbo and oddly enough the Prelude was able to stay with me, at least through the corners. always one of my favorite Hondas.

Intechdude300 - 02.11.2013 23:07

The Prelude would only struggle once again in the current market place. There's already many versions of both the Civic Coupe & Accord Coupe which leaves little meaning for a Prelude comeback. IMO what makes more sense is an Intega/RSX comeback as there's no midsize or small sport coupe in the Acura lineup ;)

Honda should bring back the Prelude, but the Accord Coupe with the 3.5 ((or even with the 2.4) and 6 speed manual is about as good (:

i like the late 80's and early 90's prelude they were my favorite preludes. My dad owned a 86 si without the 4ws but it never let him down until it started to rust. So he got rid of it instead of fixing it. But overall great cars
