I think we are a multiple number of years away from that.

The competition was initiated after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear facility disaster .

Of course we will use “ high tech and robots “ in war . BUT THE OPPORTUNITY to use robots in “ search and rescue , recovery and repair “ is more likely now in 2024

And now, just 8 years later we have robots doing parkour... WOW!!

We must not rely too much on killer robots, it would be dispoyalty and dishonor. Because robots don't have a soul, a heart and they don't know loyalty and honor. Winning wars requires human soldiers who have hearts, souls, and who know loyalty and honor !

Can we imagine if the current Atlas by BD show off its skills during the race😁

Sponsored by DARPA these robots WON'T just be used for rescue!! When Einstein split the atom the military immediately made atomic bombs. Einstein lamented "“The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything except our thinking. Thus, we are drifting toward catastrophe beyond conception. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.”
Why are our best and brightest working so constructively towards mankind's next great catastrophe? Our manner of thinking still hasn't changed. Buckets of intelligence and not a drop of wisdom.
Maybe people might start to understand when the next surprise challenge is to accurate shoot at a human like manikin. Why are no questions being asked and no safeguards being put in place? These games are held by the military for a reason and its not search and rescue.

In my opnion, it makes no sense to have robots drive a car designed for a human, just put the AI in the car! or make it remote controlled. If for some reason you really want your human-shaped robot to control a vehicle, just establish a datalink between it and the vehicle, radio frequencies give machines inherent telepathy vastly superior to what we humans can do with steering wheels and gear sticks.

i dont have any robotic background but i could build one to do this in 5 minutes...geesh..brightest minds in the world
