This beautiful bhajan is from Film Kala Bazaar (1960).It was compiled by the legendary lyricist Shailender.Famous playback singers, Geeta Dutt & Sudha Malhotra had recorded it under music direction of Maestro S.D.Burman.
As per the storyline of Film Kala Bazaar (1960), Dev Anand indulges in black marketing (काला बाज़ारी) of Cinema Tickets, gambling etc to earn more & more money.Out of sheer greed,he regularly checks his amassed wealth and thinks of multiplying it further.
His old Mother (role played by actress Leela Chitnis) & younger sister,Nanda are holding a Kirtan in the compound of their middle class residential Society.
The sacred wording of the Kirtan song has a motivational effect on Dev Anand.He is in a fix to know what to do.
Finally, he puts back all his ill gotten wealth back in his steel almirah and rushes out of his house.
Vijay Anand's direction is superb and Dev Anand 's acting is of A-grade.
Maestro S.D.Burman had rarely scored music for devotional songs, but whenever he did so,the results were memorable !
He had scored memorable music on the occasion of Shiv-Parvati Vivah in Film Munimji (1954), Film Devdas (1955) & Film Pyasa (1957).
