To be honest, I think the US should stop standardized and multiple choice tests and develop tests which really check the things that you need for degree. Also I think that my country (Israel) should stop using tests that are even worse than the SAT.

Here in Chile, while there is still a some sort of SAT test, is actually 4 separate tests who assign an individual score of the four main subjects, Literature, Math, Science and History. We also take into account the performance on middle school, this makes a weighted final score depending on the major you apply for.

Listen I get the point of this video but everything is twisted out of proportion. Let's look at this test at a surface level.
It is the ONLY way to rank students in a standardized way
in a world of gpa inflation and boosted extra curriculars, this actually helps poor people better than it hurts.
Because poor people in bad schools with no ecs or good classes can take this test to prove their capabilities.

I support the SAT, i only start having problems with it when you look at the bigger picture. Schools/students pay to take the Practice SAT sophomore year, students/schools pay to take the actual SAT junior year. Students pay to retake the SAT incase of a low score. Collegeboard floods your emails during the fall semester saying, "Students who retake the SAT are more likely to score higher" > Meaning you pay for the test again, not being guaranteed that you score higher this time. Collegeboard regularly rewires the SAT to make it more difficult = more students retake it for a possible higher score = more profit. And it is interesting when Collegeboard claims to be a "Nonprofit Organization",when the current CEO manages to somehow earn $2 million income each year. from the alleged "Non profit". It is obvious that major organizations are cheating the younger generations in paying for expensive tests and even more expensive schools, to get out of poverty. Disgusting!

From my perspective, all americans should feel blessed that their college exams are so easy. You should see the state of students in India, China, and Turkey.
So quit whining about your easy exam and just remember that it could have been a lot worse.

In my country, other than A Level result, there's still many taking into account of selecting students. Merit based on how much co-curricular you achieved in school, leadership experience, achievements you brought to your school, do you represent school in any competitions, compulsory national services, interviews..it was a hectic just to get into university. In the US, im jealous how easy it sounds.

Math is my forte, in my sophomore year I took Geometry/Trigonometry, my junior year I was in AP Calc AB and my senior year I took AP Calc BC. However it felt like dealing with a multiple AP classes in high school hurt my focus on the SAT. During my sophomore year my teacher gave us SAT-prep problems because we had juniors in the class, not that useful in your sophomore year. In my junior and senior years I was studying math that was nowhere to be seen in the SAT. So now I have to add more to my high school workload and without prep classes it was overwhelming and rough.

Better to use standardized knowledge tests; non-standardized GPA is not good as courses vary in quality for different schools.

SAT's now are far worse- the competition for the highest schools has risen from a 1450 being amazing to it being just ok and 1525+ being what you want. Thankful that when I apply most colleges are going to be test optional and not require a test that was created off of a completely idiotic philosophy and unequitable.

Now with the Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action, I think there will be more of an effort to eliminate completely standardized tests such as the SAT as a selection criteria. Admission process to college will become more holistic. Unfortunately it will also be subject to more abuse and whims of the admission committee. I don't have an opinion on whether this is correct or not. The public education, especially in the large cities, is really problematic and a nightmare for parents to navigate through for their children.

If I was in charge of college admissions, I would abolish standardized testing. Because it doesn’t measure actual intelligence, if anything, it measures your family income.
(Do you have the money to pay for a test prep tutor or even the money to take the test in the first place.)

One thing that was completely missed was that you can always transfer from a community college of small university to a larger one as long as you get good grades. Large Universities love people that do that, you can even transfer credits and save money! Me and all my friends basically did this and it completely bypasses this structure.

all college entrance exams are bunk :) to be perfectly honest, we should not need exams like these. if you want to test out of courses to get ahead in college, i can see the value in that. but that's not what these exams *do*. of course, i'm privileged to be able to say this. i come from a family that was able to pay for me to take the test, a family that has been able to pay for ap exams and extracurricular opportunities. i was able to afford study materials. i was able to get a pretty decent score and into a good school. so maybe my saying this doesn't count for much, because the system that we use has served me. but we do not need these tests. it is unfair and really doesn't test much beyond your ability to test, which varies for everyone depending on ability to focus, stamina, ability to manage test anxiety, etc etc, AND as it VERY IMPORTANTLY states in the video, your privilege--the opportunities you have available to you. we should not have these tests anymore, in really any country. at least in my opinion.

The reason the SAT and ACT is looked at is because it's a uniform standard and is objective. Unlike the grading system at most high schools, particularly inner-city schools strangled by powerful teachers' unions.

Well, you can study for the sat and retake it many times until you are happy with results. So, assuming sat score is something important to you, then it is a measure of your ability to learn, which includes financial ability to buy books and allocate time. If you can't get good at sat, maybe you would just be bad at college too and simply waste a bunch of money?

Literally no job requires anything that is on any test.. college is a money scam and so is our whole society.. it's a way to control people.. if you opt out they put you in the criminal class.. court is a joke.. hire a lawyer and you're getting scammed.. try to represent yourself and you're not allowed to because it's all a scam and the police are all liars.. so are the prosecutors.. this is what happens to you when you're poor.. rich people can afford justice because they're rich.. they can afford education. Poor people cannot afford anything. It's denied to them. This is injustice.. we say it's not owed to them that no one owes them anything. If you're going to dare even label this a civilization then maybe you do actually owe people something. Stop preying on citizens.. stop treating us like the enemy..

that's why Asian education is the best . Nothing fancy like SATS. An our Asian countries there's no poor or rich , you will be treated equal
( btw I'm not making America , I'm just making the education system 🙂 )

Quite a few people have issues with the SAT. Most of them didn't do really well on the SAT. But your High School GPA ? Come on ! ! In addition to the obvious school-to-school differences, it is to a large degree influenced by activist parents, the kid's behaviour in school, his avoidance of certain courses, teachers, etc. Don't ditch the SAT until you come up with something better, AND then scrutenize it the way everyone does with the SAT.

Sad thing is they start talking about race. As if race matters. Ever heard of Asians? They used to be discriminated against as much as Blacks and Hispanics were, yet have higher test scores and college admissions rates, etc. then whites.
