Sunni and Salafi are a synonymous term to describe Muslims who follow the Prohet Muhammad sallal laahu alaihi wa sallam and his Sahabah Radhi Allahu anhum. So Sunni, Ahlus Sunnah, Ahlus Sunnah wal jama'ah, Salafi, Salafiyya, Ahlul Hadeeth, Ahlul Athar, Firqtun Najiya, Taif al Mansoora are all legislated names and terminologies used to identify and refer to the saved victorious group, that is those who strictly follow Rasool sallal laahu alaihi wa sallam and his Sahabah Radhi Allahu anhum in belief, knowledge, statements and actions. In Aqeedah and Manhaj. If Muslims were not devided, then the name Muslim, would suffice. But due to Muslims innovationg and Ahlul Bida, people of innovation appearing at the end of the lives of the Sahabah the saved victorious group had to distinguish itself from the innovators. The Ummah will devide into 73sects in Aqeedah. All are Muslims but only one strictly follows Rasool sallal laahu alaihi wa sallam and his Sahabah Radhi Allahu anhum. May Allah make us from them. Some Ahlul Bida will claim to be Sunni, Salafi etc but their beliefs, methodology is in contraction.

The Messenger of Allah (salallāhu alyhi wasalam) said to Fātimah (radiyallāhu anha) on his deathbed:

সালাফি এবং আহলে হাদিছের লোকজন বড় গর্ব করে বলেন যে তারা রাসুল, সাহাবী, তাবেইন এবং তাবেতাবেইনদের অনুসরনে সহীহ হাদিছ মেনে চলেন। শুনে মনে হবে, বাহ বেশতো! কিন্তু পবিত্র কোরআন তাবেইন বা তাবেতাবেইন তো বটেই, সকল সাহাবীকে অনুসরনের নির্দেশ দেয় না। সুরা তওবার ১০০ নং আয়াতে আল্লাহপাক কেবল আনসার এবং মুহাজির সাহাবীদের প্রতি সন্তুষ্ট হওয়ার কথা বলেছেন। কাজেই আল্লাহর রাসুল এবং আনসার-মুহাজির সাহাবীদের অনুসরন করা যাবে। সাহাবীদের মধ্যে অনেকেই নবী মৃত্যুর পর মুনাফেকীকে লিপ্ত হয়েছিলেন। হযরত তুলায়হা তো ইসলামই ত্যাগ করেছিলেন। অবশ্য পরে ইসলামে ফিরে এসেছিলেন। তাবেইন ইয়াজিদ বিন মুয়াবিয়ার মাত্র একটি ঘটনাই বেশী চাওর হয়েছে, তা হলো-কারবালা। অথচ এই তাবেইন ইয়াজিদ-বি-মুয়াবিয়া হাররার যুদ্ধে মদীনায় সাহাবীর স্ত্রী কন্যাদের ধর্ষনের নির্দেশ দিয়েছিল। সাহাবীদের ছোট ছোট শিশু কন্যাদেরও ধর্ষন করা হয়েছিল। প্রায় ১০০০ অবৈধ শিশুর জন্ম হয়েছিল তার এই কীর্তির কারনে। অগণিত সাহাবীকে নির্বিচারে হত্যা করা হয়েছিল।
উমাইয়ারা ক্ষমতায় দীর্ঘস্থায়ী হয়ে যাওয়ায় তাদের সবকিছুই ইনডেমিনিটি দিতেই এই সালাফি মানহাজের সৃষ্টি করা হয়েছিল। আজো সেই ধারা অব্যাহত আছে। আর নবীর বংশ ধ্বংসকারীরাই ইসলামের মালিক সেজে বসে আছে। আমাদের দেশের আলেম নামধারী কিছু কুলাংগার কতেক

SubhanAllah! This is what always my heart speaks. People always call themselves Salafi,ahlus sunnah wal jmaah this and that and i dont really like it. And its confusing. Some people even call themeselves "true salafi". If our prophet saw was still alive,imagine what is he going to say about it.

While I agree with the Sheikh that he mainly caters for the lay Muslim, he clearly seemed to think there is a difference between Sunni and Sufi, which is absurd, as the vast majority of Muslims who have Sufi beliefs are Sunnis. Secondly he seems to think the opinions of the salaf and their students amounts to devine wisdom which every Muslim should follow-despite the fact the companions disagreed amongst themselves over issues. When the Prophet[saw] tells the Ummah to follow what the companions are doing -it is clearly the living Sunnah -prayer, fasting, Hajj, zakat. This has been perfectly preserved for 1400 years because the companions practised this as their daily lives. However the legal opinions of the sahaba and their students is exactly that-opinions they are not legally binding on anyone.

The legislated names for Sunnis are used when required to distinguish oneself from the other Muslims who have devided themselves into various sects, groups and parties.. To show they are strict followers of Rasool sallal lahu alaihi wa sallam and his Sahabah radhi Allahu anhum... These titles are not to be used as a badge, a hizbi group.. But just as an ascription.
