50s have Probucker 1&2, 60s has 2&3, basically 7K, 8K and 9K respectively. PBs are reportedly alnico 2s

The 1&2 PB set are far rarer than the 2&3 set

Some models in the past, both LP and SG, were built with the Alnico Classic Pro (7.5K alnico 5) in the neck and the Probucker 3 in the bridge.

ACPros are a bit Pearly Gatesy/Slash-ish with alnico 2 magnets swapped in, thats what I have in my 335 Chibson, with the 3 push pull pot Epi quick connect harness, 2 universes better than the original super-cheapo pickups

I need to try A2s in the PBs, to confirm ir deny they are in fact A2 from the factory

ACPro have evenly wound bobbins and are Korean made copies of the Gibson 57 and 57+, Probuckers have unevenly wound bobbins and are copies of Burstbuckers.

The Gibson 61R/61T set with swapped in A2 magnets are absolute magic. None of the potential boom or hash like the PB 2&3

Great playing as usual!!
Just have a question about the 60s and the 50s neck that you reviewed, Which neck feels better in your opinion?

Is there any difference between this and the limited edition version that Guitar Center has on sale right now other than the color?

Thanks for mentioning the comparison to Artist guitars etc, as I have been wondering kind of where they all site. Would love to see an episode comparing in a little more detail some of the Epiphone and Artist les paul style guitars. Thanks for the great reviews etc.

Sounded wonderful in the clean channel, and bluesy with the gain on too. Thx for your input about the neck pickup.

Hi, Shane! One question, in case you know: I have this exact same guitar and I need to change a tone knob that has a crack. Do you know if the pots are imperial inch or metric type? Thanks!

The Epiphones are so good. I was unfortunately gassed up on Gibson and I had to have that headstock. A few weeks later I find out my buddy is an epiphone dealer, and he gives me a great deal on a LP custom. Couldn’t pass it up. Worst case scenario is I sell it if I don’t like it and take no loss. Well damn now I’m staring angrily at my Gibson standard LP. But she is damn fine looking.

Yeah, I'm a lefty, and I recently got the Epiphone 60's standard. Most fun guitar I've played in a long time. The one complaint is the tone pots. They're not for left handed guitars, I have basically no tone range at all. Once I get left handed pots put in I'll have my lifetime guitar.

Just ordered my Epiphone 60's model, Iced Tea color and Left handed.
Should be coming in tomorrow, can't wait!
They have really come a long long way, and even though I do own a Cherry Stain LPJ (circa 2013 or so..), I love my Epiphone 50's model but looking forward to something a little more updated in the 60's model.

They're very nice. They look and sound great. It helps if you have guitar setup skills and tools to dial it in just right, and they're worth paying someone who does to do that. They'll play great if the setup is done right. Minor differences like poly vs. nitro finish aren't something you'll see or hear. The biggest difference is what you'll pay for it, and their resale value.

Hi Shane.
Thanks for your review, verry informative.
Purchased one at at Sky Music last Sunday and love it.
Took your advice droped in to Jaycar and got the parts for a treble bleed and added one to both volume pots.
What a difference.
Thanks again.

I bought the same guitar in lefty short fingers it just right, 50's was too chunky for my hands. Minor fret buzz, and pot cavity is way to busy for me.
Mods will be- remove wired clips direct solder , change capacitors, and as Shane said high pass filter treble bleed.

Hi Shane. FTR, the high pass filter you mentioned toward the end of the vid (about overcoming the woollyness of the neck pup), is in fact a bass-mid cut. By reducing bass-mids, the natural top-end from a pup passes through the (high-pass capacitor filter), when connected to an amp. Cool playing. Regards. (the artist guitar is not as good as you say it is - I’m disappointed, I bought one based on a recommendation).

For some reason I much prefer the 50's sound. Do you have a personal opinion on which one is your favorite?

I am 1.73cm and worried if the neck is going to be too huge on the 50's for me

Hey Shane nice job on the demo. I believe that the pickups are the same in the sixties and fifties models. I have heard adjusting the pole positions on the probucker pickups can greatly improve the tone.. Does anyone on here have experience with adjusting the pole pieces to improve the tone?

50s has probucker 2 neck 1 bridge 60s has 2 neck and probucker 3 bridge, hotter. Plus the 60s vs 50s wiring. Its a rocker not a weeper.

Strange as the pickups in both guitars are supposed to be the same. The basic differences are the tuners, the neck and color choices. Oh yes there is 50's wiring in the 50's but not the 60's so that could be what you are hearing
