Sony a7R III Review vs D850 (with raw files)!

I recently got an A7R3, used, to explore outside of Fujiland. It’s interesting to see how video reviews of it have aged against the advancements of the past five years. The new features and specs touted have been supeseded and surpassed in newer models. It’s also interesting that the A7R3 is presently great for stills shooting (though my Fuji X-T4 is better for video than recent Sony models are).

Dear Tony and Chelsea,
I know you probably won't see this but I just wanted to thank you for all the time and effort you put into making these educational videos. I've been following this channel for around 5 years now and your thorough testing of new cameras and lenses has greatly helped me when making purchasing decisions and I feel like I've become a better overall photographer thanks to your informative videos and helpful tips. I've recently decided to upgrade to full frame and consider breaking into the professional market and although the a7riii is an older camera now I felt like it was the best bang for my buck and fit my budget. It's almost like a swiss army knife in the sense that it can do a little bit of everything and that's exactly what I want/need. I just ordered a used one off adorama and I can't wait till it arrives in the mail so I can start using it! Thanks again and much love from Pennsylvania

Just a pity Sony bodies are not as comfortable in hand as Canon bodies. Canon knows how to sculpt curves, where Sony seems to think they're making bricks

Meanwhile while all Sony users were waiting for their bUFFERS TO CLEAR OUT, Just think they gave new technology XQD to Nikon... then the went to Older slower Technology S.D. Cards for their own cameras...And now throw out A7RIII And buy a NEW A7R IV, then wait 5 moinths and chuck that out

I came across this video and had to watch it in 2022 because i still use my four year old A7r lll as my only Sony camera because i have felt no need to upgrade. But I proobablly wouldve bought an A1 if it wasnt so pricey. Even though i dont really need its ability for what i mostly shoot.

I am interested in mirrorless and the SONY model described here; but I’m not a videographer so moving from D850 just now isn’t an option despite SONY’s draw. Thank you both for your candid overall reviews of the Sony a7^ III

On this Sony A7r III 3 an important thing is missing which is the color inversion or negative. Very useful for reproducing color or black and white negatives. Many photographers have these negatives in stock and could digitize them. I hope this message reaches Mr. Sony's ears.

Been using the a7r iii for almost a year now. Overall it's a brilliant camera. Lately I've just been frustrated with the af while photographing wildlife. Too many lost opportunities when the just misses a little.

A9 could prolly give me the keepers in these situations... just hard to go back from 42mp to 24mp.

I just got the a7r iii in a ziess 24 70 f4 lens in the images are not that sharp I dont know if it's the lens or sensor?

Is me or does that mirrorless camera look CHEAP.. It does NOT look like from the outside a 3,000 camera and they look like half of camera cheaply made.

Eye detection is ABSOLUTELY improved when you turn off Face Detection. The Face Detection sometimes will over-ride Eye Focus.

Yeah, the eye focusing works great. but how come all the shots that Chelsea took don't look sharp enough ? For the 1/800 and F/2.8 it is a complete garbage results.

can someone engange in this conversation and help me with a decision. me and my friend want to invest in cameras for weddings, interviews and other kind of events. we need to go for 3 cameras, 1 which will mainly be used for pictures but it should be able to record video on par with the other 2 as well... i really like the Panasonic GH5 (except the autofocus of course), i have used one and i would buy one or two actualy from these 3 total cameras, as video recording cameras... i find myself watching these videos trying to find out some other good cameras or even better than gh5, in the 2000-3000euros price range. i will drop the gh5 for anything else better if you guys know of such thing, even the Sony a7R III looks good.

The A7r2 has to be one of the most flexible cameras available. I've spent a lot of time using the A7r2 with a selection of weird manual lenses (Zenit, Pentacon, Prakticar, etc.), a set of shift & tilt adapters & legacy Minolta glass (via the LA-EA4 SLT adapter).
1) The LA-EA2 & -EA4 adapters open up a wide choice of A-mount lenses, some of which are fantastic like the old Sigma 400/5.6 Macro APO. Some legacy teleconverters continue to work w/ the adapters, & the LA-EA2 affords the full 399 PDAF points.
2) Likewise the Sigma MC-11 adapter opens the field up to a wide variety of Canon mount EF lenses;
3) The IBIS is awfully good with manual lenses, and superb w/ any e-Mount lens w/ IS/VR.
4) The battery life problem is addressed by getting an inexpensive external USB battery back w/ a long cable.
5) Most of the functions are programmable save for a few (S35 mode in my current firmware)
6) Chaining 645-to-Canon-to-eMount shift & tilt adapters is very doable, great for highly detailed architectural or landscape work. Be ready to do some barroom engineering w/ telescope rings & swiss-arca rails;
7) Inexpensive helicoids can force any old DSLR lens into close-up modes & for video work afford faster, smoother focus pulling than most manual lens focus rings (just set the lens to infinity);

Canceled my D850 for the Sony, now I need to sell my glass. Hardest part of brand change is the gear swap.

This is my new go-to guy 4 camera technology. I'm very very much a Layman. Interested in technology in general, and wanting to do some vlogging. And I need someone to filter through all of this Tech and companies and lenses everything else. I just discovered this guy I think yesterday or maybe the day before. Recently. Lol. Anyway, this is my go-to guy now period after watching, I go online and look at cameras in I have so much more understanding now.

after watching this.. i bought A7rIII and sold my nikon d810 all gears.... sony mirror less cams are the game changer...

I do large format printing, ithe pxel shift would be tempting...
