Gibson 1996 '61 Reissue SG

A big part of the SG being punchy is that it's an all mahagony guitar. Flying Vs and explorers have that same sort or mid range punch . All mahagony guitars cut through with punch and mid range clarity which is why flying Vs add explorers are so popular with metal players. Metal guys use explorers and Vs rather then SGs because both those Guitars have a fatter sound and a bigger bottom end/lower midrange as well as more top end compared to the SG . The V and explorer especially rhe explorer will chug the way an SG can't. SGs are fantastic in 2 guitar bands where one guy is playing a les Paul's standard. The Sg with its mid focus will help you stand out in the mix . With 2 guys playing a les paul standard it can be hard to differentiate who is playing what

What do you think the Squire and Eppiphone guitars compared to Fender and Gibson ?
I tried a SG once. It was too wide for me. Makes me wonder what a seven string would be like.

There’s a used 1996 Gibson Les Paul Studio at my local guitar store I’ve been eyeing. Is 800 a good price, and is there anything I should look out for?
