Sutton Hoo - Masterpieces of the British Museum - BBC Documentary

Just watched the movie “The Dig” and this further inspired me to look at the marvels discovered there. Amazing.

Digging this all up had to be so fun and exciting! Seeing each item as it was found would have been so extraordinary. I wish I could have been there

Thankfully, Sutton Hoo did not fall prey to treasure pirates over the centuries. Since it was within the boundaries of a private estate, wealthy landowners acted as unwitting caretakers of antiquity.

Its a shame they couldnt take some kind of plaster cast of the ship imprint. Im sure now they could use a drone to scan the whole vessel and transfer the shape into a computer!

The helmet might be related to the Swedish vendel helmets. We have found a similiar one here in Sweden. The valsgarde helmet.

The dig was excellent so you want more and this is in-depth documentary just right after watching the dig .

Visited the British museum to see the Sutton hoo treasures. Absolutely amazing.

This film kept mentioning the uniqueness of the helmet and the other Sutton Hoo items. They are unique in more ways than one, for example, they weren't stolen from another country.
