I'm sorry to say that oftentimes the nursing field is not an exception to low pay, I was making $28/hr and even the most experienced and valued nurses will have their pay capped at 80k/year (at least in most hospital settings). Thank you for this video, I'd love to hear more about happiness research.
EDIT: I should clarify that by low pay I mean in correlation to the work and stress that comes with the job
I am thinking about pursuing therapy as a career, and your con about needing to draw boundaries around your practice, particularly in real life settings, makes a lot of sense. It seems like ya'll are trained to do specific work in specific settings based on information shared in confidence, which I hear are all critical for therapy to be effective. Thanks for sharing, your channel is informing and aiding in my decision making!
ОтветитьHi! New subscriber! I have been binging your videos and really enjoying the information you’re sharing! Could you please speak about how you go about being fully remote as far as using an address to promote your business. I hope that makes sense! I would not want to use my home address if I was fully remote but I know you need an address for business purposes. I know that may be different in different states. Any guidance on this will be helpful. Thank you!
ОтветитьHow long did grad school take you? Is there any way to accelerate it? I’m already 25 and want to start a family but am just starting out 😢
ОтветитьI would love to hear more about happiness research!
ОтветитьReally been thinking about going down this journey for years and I’m finally at the point to start making moves. Have you done any videos on finding the right program to do a masters in? Did you do yours online? If so any recommendations for online programs?
Thank you! Glad I found this channel
@allysapowers Hi Allyssa! I have a bachelor's in Psych and always wanted to be a therapist. But life took me on a different path. I have many years of ESL teaching experience, then got an MBA and have been in the business world in HR for 20 years. As I eye the last half of my work-life and "semi-retirement", I am once again strongly considering going back to school part time, and becoming a therapist by age 56-58! I am currently 52. I love all the pros you mentioned and that's why I want to do it. But the investment is big. But, I can see myself doing this kind of work on a part-time basis well past the age of 65 or 70. Does this even sound possible, or viable? Have you ever heard of such a late career change? Thank you!
ОтветитьGood information. Thank you
ОтветитьWhat were the biggest challenges starting your private practice?
ОтветитьYou should be a guided meditation voice over. Your voice is really relaxing :) Therapist in training here, all the way from Australia!
ОтветитьHow do you get clients if you’re working on your own?
ОтветитьWhere did you go to school? Do you feel its important to go to an in-person program? Walden seems to offer a good online program. Thoughts? Ps - I live in Ohio too! I'm a teacher - the pay (I believe) is worse for a teacher, isn't it?
ОтветитьCan you please d pl ba video breaking down what it might look like to be an I O Psychologist?
ОтветитьGreat points. I’m starting MHC Masters program soon. Looking forward to it. It’s my second career at midlife but I’m looking forward to autonomy and flexibility. Thank you ❤
ОтветитьBeing a Therapist has always been my DREAM ! even now I find myself talking to people and they just start sharing their entire life stories ! I really feel like its my calling
ОтветитьThank you so much for the informative videos! So helpful!
Ответитьhow many years you went to school to be a health mental counselor
ОтветитьThank you so much for creating this video! I have been considering pursuing a masters degree in CMHC as I have been an LMT for over 8 years now and feel like I want to go deeper with people which is currently outside of my scope of practice.
ОтветитьWow! So glad to find ur channel! Good to learn more! I'm just starting metaphysical college and looking for. School to get an actual license to practice! So thank u for ur channel.
ОтветитьThank you for this video! I didn’t consider some things you outlined in this video. You have a new subscriber! ❤❤❤
Ответитьpulling points/quotes into a little summary here, hope that's okay!
pros:
1) Meaningful work - tangible way to help
2) Flexible - e.g. private practice
3) Customizable - your specialization, your chosen techniques over time, etc.
4) Can move anywhere and see clients in states you hold licensure
5) Always be needed - empathy cannot be manufactured, like by by AI
cons:
1) low pay generally
2) high burnout
3) really long, drawn-out process
4) desensitize you to the hard stuff, a lot to carry and take care of yourself
5) change interactions with people around you - for better, like boundaries; for worse, like being"watched" in public or seen on dating apps when clients live in your area; consider also: friends that may not be taking proper care of their own mental health and overly trying to use your as their stand-in therapist (of course, friendship is emotional support but this level can be too much)
Thank you!!!
