Interesting the commentator goes straight to 'deliberately hit Goodall'. He'd just been no balled for bowling too wide of the crease so naturally came narrower... Croft is a big bloke - if he'd wanted to hit Goodall the bloke would have been down properly

Cricket umpires should have the power to send players off, the dissent there was a disgrace and the captain stood by and did nothing about it.

This was New Zealand's only rubber won in 7 years and West Indies's only one lost in 15. You do the math.

Aussie and NZ umpires used to be the loadstars of biased umpiring (some called them 'cheats') in those days. That was the reason why these two countries crackled at their loudest when VAR was brought into play.

The first delivery, Crodt didn't even appeal for and only did so after Murray appealed. Can't blame the umpire totally for that one.. I think both were out and both the West Indian bowlers behaved poorly..
The facts are that the West Indies were jaded after the Aussie tour and in surly mood for much of the New Zealand tour. It's an open secret that they weren't in the mood to play and wanted to go home. Then they were caught against a determined NZ team and Hadlee too good for them on those pitches and what they perceived as biased umpiring.

Do you remember that Fred Goodall's nickname was Good for F-all? (To his credit, he told that joke himself.) He was a shocker, though; I was at Lancaster Park that day, and I was groaning with embarrassment.

From a kiwi here, it seems all NZ had to do was hit the pads and LBW was given. Windies on the other hand had to do the same 2 or 3 times to get a decision. Any wonder they were a little pissed off?

The fact was, Croft had an appalling action, he was uncontrolled, and his front foot was outside the crease in these. His barge against the Umpire was deliberate and unacceptable. I think the Holding one, while unseemly, was just the heat of the moment.
