Wow ! This kind of message brings me so much joy, can not agree more, fantastic, I so much identify with this view points, I discover philosophy very recently, but what I discover is that it was practically unside of me for the most part of my life, I am 58 today, but stylish and mentally jung and a bit experienced, I so much want to contribute to myself so I can then contribute to the world, in whatever way possible. Thank you very much for the emotional and mental accompainment Mr. Botton, greetings from Colombia, South -America.
ОтветитьWhere are in the images I’ve seen, like what your say, but where is my black image?
ОтветитьThe intelligibility of existence makes clowns out of atheists.
ОтветитьI think we were symphonic music which then got speeded up to jazz and has now gone off the cliff and we are falling from grace.
Ответитьsame level as other great thinkers of the past this man
ОтветитьAs many as his talks are, this one is just as interesting and marvelous. There are even ones that I talk about on my channel like those on TED and Google. They are pretty good as well. Such a great speaker with a great mind!
ОтветитьQuick feedback: great video but the editing elements and background sounds are a lil bit distracting.
Ответитьthis is not the age of philosophy...
ОтветитьHis comments on forgiveness resonated with me...its in short supply in our modern societies...and its always been the mechanism through which we are encouraged to think, act and do things...because we know if we make a mistake we wont be punished in perpetuity. In its absence, people become less inclined to think objectively, take any risks and lead less fulfilling lives
ОтветитьPossibly my favourite contemporary public intellectual, he's just great! Enormously influential on my own life and I go back to him time and again.
ОтветитьJailed for his opinion, Switzerland is a tyrannical state, and is worse that Russia.
ОтветитьI wish he had been my teacher when i going to school. I would have been psychologically and emotionally more balanced and preared for the years ahead, abd saved me so mugh oain, i made, so many bad emotional decision that altered my life in a drastic ways. I hate there thinking about dose years. The one thing that ring true, when he said, "we must learn to forgive, learn from it, and move on.
ОтветитьTheres a market for philosophy, emotional intelligence, in our schools and workplace, to prepare our youth for the hard tuff life that lies ahead.
Ответить"His shoes were violently resistant to elegance" LOL, he didn't know the fashion of Crocs were coming very soon
Ответить“A part of everyday alone, thinking”….. me too
Ответитьplease remove the music it hinders my focus
ОтветитьLoved this conversation so much. His thinking is fun and engaging. Thank you.
ОтветитьOMG. Academics didn't kill philosophy. CAPITALISM DID.
Ответить❤
ОтветитьThis is the best Alain de Botton interview I've watched
ОтветитьVery shallow and useless lecture. You don't learn b anything new... Just a waste of time.
ОтветитьHow do I get that job? I'm dyslexic and I've read multiple books and even wrote my own panflet one on investing principles. I hate talking in front of people, but I relate a lot to this guy.
I wonder if he tries to fi d the right things to repeat in a new way or if he tries to recommend his own memes. I know he repeats history on purpose. Seems like an amazing guy.
Adorable and such an accessible man! He's a blessing for humanity.
ОтветитьI love Alain de Botton 🥰 🦋
ОтветитьEverything is in the Resurrection. He wishes it wasn't and so do a lot of people.
ОтветитьGuys, consciousness appears to be what the ancient yogis kept talking about.
What is it to be? What is it to simply exist? What is the “iss-ness”??
There is also a lot of “unknown” information as to how humans operate.
As to why we have creation myths.
As to why we have a concept of a creator or god.
As to why we have a sense of morality.
Also, there is a theory that we must become constructive members of society.
I don’t believe so. What can one contribute to a game or system they don’t identify with or like?
We can become anything we want because that is what’s right for us, we each have unique abilities, whether appreciated by society or not.
There is no thing to conform to.
People say idea’s don’t often reach places of power, maybe because power requires an alternative toolset.
And if our current society values the power toolset then we are asking those with non-power toolsets to work on a structure they aren’t here to build.
Every toolset will allow the individual to build their own unique structure.
''violently resistant to elegance''🤣

Ответитьself meditation and philosophy should be done BY ALL I think that free thinking and asking the big questions is crucial for everyone!
ОтветитьHumans just don't trust other Humans I don't think we can ever get around this.
ОтветитьI don't know about energy prices going to 0 I SEE THEM GOING UP!
ОтветитьHe's not talking like a philosopher and according to me he is more like a "life coach or something".
ОтветитьWow.
ОтветитьDepartment of thinking is the design department
ОтветитьAnxiety is the dizziness of freedom, paraphrasing kierkegaard
ОтветитьHe gives me vibe of a narcissistic psychopath .
Ответитьyes....
ОтветитьOh man you secure an interview with a great thinker, and then add edit effects in crappy music as if you were selling health insurance. Poor.
ОтветитьWhere is your philosophy? Seems you’re rather busy being serious yes you’re right. Know thyself and self mastery of ego.
ОтветитьThank you. Thank you. Thank you.
ОтветитьIn the sea chaos and turmoil that is this modern world, Alain de Button is an island of reason and coherence.
ОтветитьHis work introduced me to philosophy a few years ago, a book that I purchased for $1 made me question the way I looked at things around me. I'm not a fan, but I do appreciate his efforts.
ОтветитьWhat will be the most influential philosophical currents of the 21st century?
Modern science embraces the anthropic principle in its crystal-clear logic, which is also inseparable from its philosophical and metaphysical implications, undecidabilities, mysteries, interrogations and components.
The renaissance brought back ancient philosophy and knowledge, but the church forbid us to bring back the Gods as well - banned any discussion about them (*).
Going farther than the anthropic principle, there is a current that could be described as "agnostic theoi-centric principle" - the belief or conviction that the world, including logic and mathematics, that creates my/our sentient experiences & thoughts is the way it is, because 'the Gods' wanted it this way.
Where 'Gods' has the primary function of a placeholder word for truths, insights, mechanisms and entities we have no access to.
Part of the value in the anthropic principle is not giving answers to the myriad of unsolved questions and mysteries in physics, logic and mathematics (it does not) but to create an emotional bridge to what naturally matters most to us: us.
The bridge is anchored on one side (in the fact of our existence) and points to the known unknowns and unknown unknowns on the other side.
The philosophical extension of this established principle can also create a bridge... to talk about... maybe explore, acknowledge, breathe, hope, dance, play, flirt, fall in love, praise, passion, wonder... about entities so far on one hand, farther even than the stars, but integral to us and the questions we are born with.
The ranking of Switzerland appears in the annual World Happiness Report published by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Solutions Network. For the fifth year in a row, Finland topped the table, followed by Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland- thus, Switzerland is number 4! Not bad at all.
Ответить❤️👍
ОтветитьThat background music or rubble of noise is distracting from the main event
