Hi, thanks for the video. My problem is with my dog not wanting to give back other dogs' toy (especially balls) when we're out in the dog playground. She gives back her toy, but not others'. She's not a puppy anymore, she's a rescue dog between 2-3 and been with me for a year. Treats are not (nothing is) higher value than the ball. Could you recommend something?

I have owned now three dogs myself.. grow up with my father raising another 3... my grandfather my father.... and now myself have never leased my dogs unless they have done something wrong... I raise my dogs just like my family did all my life... raise them like you do children... do you give your child a piece of candy every time they do something good... of course not or you would have and over wieght child that will only do stuff for treats... so it's OK to do it with dogs... try using this method.... its really simple... THEIR NOT DOGS THERE ARE YOUR CHILDERN... treat them as such... talk to them just like you do a child and try using love an attention and thy occasional treat just like your child...

whenever my 2nd jack Russell buddy won't let go or do something i want i talk to my imaginary FIRST jack Russell TOTO (who passed on in 2019 age 14) and I say "oh, hello Toto, Buddy doesn't want to play anymore so would you like to play .. okay, let's go" and as soon as I start to "PLAY" with my imaginary first dog Toto Buddy drops absolutely everything to be in on the action that he THINKS he is missing, he can't resist and as crazy as it sounds it works every time 😂

In English there seems not to be a difference between having an animal do as it's told (without a treat, that is called "entrenar") vs having an animal 'trade' a treat for following your commnd ("amaestrar") like they do on a circus.

Please don't give your dog a treat for a real training. That's bad advice. The dog has to obey with or without a cookie, without expectation for a cookie. Your because he trusts you that your command is good, and is going to make him good, safer and better dog.

Dog trainer here, the problem with the “trade method” is you’re now teaching your dog to go get something to trade when they want a treat, you’re just making another game out of it…

One of the first things I teach my pups is to 'leave it'. Covers all sorts of problems, eating rubbish, resource guarding, puppy chewing. Using this command, they can be taught not to accept 'treats Also makes dogs safer from eating toxic substances.

Sorry I'm late to the party, but I have a question: if your puppy already knows the "drop it" command, but still grabs things and doesn't let go in an effort to get your attention or some additional play time, what do you do?

How young is too young to learn. My pup is 9 weeks old and has sit, come, and will get in her kennel on command. But theres things like nipping and hand shakes that I've been working on for about a week with near zero success. I was wondering if she is too young and wild to understand yet. I've never had a pup this young before. Other pups I've had before were 4-6 months old when I got them and seemed to pick up on things much easier.

So if she wants something of higer value than she grabs a toy and doesnt let go so they get the treat ... this is useless. They are still in control

He's food motivated and very mouthy (aka not quite able to know skin hurts so careful).

For my dogs I’ve used the commands “give”, to give me something and “leave it” to stop going for something or someone. There’s also “off” to get down off of something (bed, couch etc), along with the common “sit”, “come” , “down” , “stay”, and “heel”. Our dog trainer said one word commands, where possible, are better. For some reason they also said only use their name with the “come” command. Maybe so it’s more likely to grab their attention?

How do you handle when your kids have a toy on the ground. I have younger kids and we are moving their toys upstairs. But I expect them to still play downstairs. How can I be prepared for this? We haven’t gotten our puppy yet.
