When i was a kid i watched gladiator and it gave me a feeling like no other movie has been able to do. Now as a man i study Marcus Aurelius and have been busy with the bible when i have time, but have just finished the new testament, and downloaded meditations. 🙏STAY BLESSED 🙏

Thank you for your selfless sharing and love for the craft…in times of trouble, without strong family values or a father figure, I often naturally drift into the negatives and lose sight of how lucky it is to even be alive.

Stoicism has become my anchor to a far more optimistic day to day 🙏

Would love to read this book 100 times at some point in my life 🫡

If I could invite any 10 people in history to a dinner party, they would probably be Marcus Aurelius and 9 Latin-English translators.

Marcus Aurelius wrote his Meditations 1900 & some-odd years ago. And so many people, still today, think of these long dead men & women; teachers, poets, generals, soldiers & slaves as somehow less intelligent, less creative, or simply "less" than we are today. To read Marcus Aurelius is to realize and, perhaps, appreciate how little the human race has "evolved" in those intervening centuries.

I recently read this with the mindfulness workbook on amz called 30 Days to Reduce Anxiety by Harper Daniels. It's so important to clear the mind of expectations and stressful things.

We are not sure that Marcus Aurelius was really that way. Maybe those were some of his thoughts and what a complex being he was.... this is the reason on why you shall not aim to be like the writing but let the writing be like you

Ryan… or anyone that is reading…I have a translation in Spanish edited by Alejandra Valverde and in English the one by George Lang….
In book 1 paragraph IV the translations contradict each other . It’s what he learned from his great grandfather… in English it says : From my great grandfather, not to have frequented public schools, and to have had good teachers at home, and to know that on such things a man should spend liberally.
Spanish version :
De mi bisabuelo, aprendí el no menospreciar las escuelas públicas y, en casa, el buscar a los mejores maestros, persuadido de que en la educación no se debe perdonar gasto. ( literal translation: From my great grandfather I learned not to look down on public schools, and at home, to seek the best teachers, persuaded by the notion that on such things one should spend freely.

"How to read Meditations" How so supremely arrogant a title??? Dude seriously, how dare you? Don't you understand that the title of this video is so antithesis of Marcus Aurellius it's ridiculous. And he was not "the most powerful man in the world" He was most powerful 'leader' in Western world!! You make so many assumptions as to how Marcus would "feel" or "think" when it's actually IMPOSSIBLE for any of us to? Just suggest people read and take away their own thoughts, you can't guide people as to what he thinks or what you think he thinks

I have read Meditations a paltry three times and love it but to call it the greatest book ever written? You seem to approach Stoicism with an almost religious fervour and that seems to me to be something to put you on guard.

It looks like Gregory Hays have two different translations. Which should you choose?

The black and red one with the bird?

Or

The one with Marcus Aurelius on the cover (the one Ryan has taken notes in the video)?

Please help 🙏🏼

Thanks, I've been dipping into Meditations, it's very inspiring. Also Epictetus. Tom Wolfe's book
A Man in Full stars Epictetus, if you haven't read it! ( btw, don't Americans say 'bedclothes' ?)
