"free energy" where you amplify one type of energy is not possible.

Mysterious energy harvesting, though mysterious, is possible. Heat pumps, i.e. the refrigeration cycle, also have a COP > 1.0 as heat pumps will move more joules of energy in heat from a cold location to a hot location....In other words, the heat pump does more work on the environment than is done on the pump.

The key point is that "mass energy" is not being created or destroyed but rather "potential energy" is being manipulated in creative ways that allow for a higher output of work than the input of work.

The refrigeration cycle is and will always be proof that it is possible to build machine that have higher "work" outputs that "work" inputs: overunity. So while free energy is not possible, it's only in the sense of stupid ideas. If one considers the energy in "work" to be equivalent to the energy in "mass energy" then the heat pump indeed provides "free energy" as the heat pump does more work on the evironment than it is supplied.

Because heat pumps opperate on the principle of overunity, more "work" (not mass-energy) output than input, a self-sustaining loop can be made using nitinol or other shape memory alloys that calorically absorb heat to produce mechanical motion. S.M.A.s contract through an endothermic chemical reaction and convert heat to mechanical energy at above the maximum carnot efficiency for the same temperature differential due to the first and second laws of thermodynamics, still bellow 100% but above maximum carnot efficiency.

This allows SMAs to be coupled with the refrigeration cycle to create a self sustaining heat scavenging generator.

It's not creating "mass-energy" but it is "free-energy", one of the components in the system exhibits overunity and that's the only reason the energy scavenging cycle works.
