ОтветитьWow, excellent documentation. What is shown in this video is similar to what I experienced on U.S. Navy ships (15 year engineering). Based on the utube videos I seen three differences I see between the US Navy and the U.S. Merchant Marines is (1) the U.S. Navy has a promotion scale, (2) the Merchant Marines has a union, (3) pay: the Navy is more of a "salary" worker, the Merchant Marines are more of an "hourly" worker.
Again, thank you for putting this documentation together. Its a fine piece of work. I really appreciate it!
I now know what I want my career to be
ОтветитьGreat Story Telling Brotha!

ОтветитьAmazing thanks !
ОтветитьYou did such a phenomenal job creating this video! You are also an incredible artist as I love the painting you briefly showed in this video! I am doing research into a career change to become a Merchant marine! I am looking into the Maritime Apprenticeship Program with MITAGS. Your video is an excellent look into the every day life while working on ship! I am very much interested in learning about what you have been up to since this voyage!
ОтветитьSuch a well done accounting of your experience.

I prepared something concise and a little close to this topic in my channel. It's about maritime shipping and its implications in the world.
I'm the only one from 4000 students who going to be merchant mariner...😅

ОтветитьThe real real question is ... how much did you get paid for those 6 months ?
Ответитьfantastic - thank you for this documentary, and for your work
ОтветитьGreat documentary! what an unpretentious style, and love for the sea. Sorry for the personal question but how close are you from portuguese ancestry? seems pretty close. father? grandfather?
ОтветитьMy Dad's Submarine came back fr. WW 2 under the Golden Gate an he said the fog split, like u said. He had to go on a milk train as he said across the states to Northern New York.
Old duffers would spend their paychecks, when they went to a Navy port for stocking food for the Sub. My Dad had to wire money home to wife an 2 kids.
So he didn't have too much left for wine women an song. Good Luck... smoothe sailing an far winds. Go while your single, u'll never regret it. We loved 23 years in Air Force an our girls did also.. It's amazing to think u can still retire at 38 yrs. Old an have another career. Blessings
Do u watch Joe the merchant marine.
Man Id really like to try something like this but don't think I could do it as a long term career. Any advice for a path to take in this industry?
ОтветитьThanks for an awesome journey of life on a ship. I want to do that. Traveling our oceans. Working on big cargo ships.
ОтветитьI love your video. the voice, the editing are good. I hope you make more videos like this.
ОтветитьHello, Martin!
As soon as I read the 180+ year old quote from "Two Years Before the Mast" and heard your thoughtful voice over
introduction, I knew this was going to be a great video. And it did not disappoint!! Thank you for sharing your
story, your observations and all your beautiful expert camera work. I have always been fascinated by the thought
of traveling by ship. You certainly satisfied my curiosity and I thank you. Though I'm a landlubber for sure, my
fascination with life aboard ship remains unabated.
Although I am a water sign, it does not appear my body appreciates the sea. I crossed the English Channel three
times in my life; once on a P&O Steamer and twice on a hovercraft. One of latter ones was during a gale!!
Needless to say, I was seasick during each crossing even though the channel conditions were listed as calm during
the first. I began to feel sick as soon as I unpacked lunch and got a whiff of my sandwich. One look out the
window with the shore moving up and down had me diving for the floor to lie flat. When a British Officer called
my name for the brief immigration interview, he quipped, observing my state, "Under the weather are we?" After
ascertaining if I could walk, we made it to his office and I went to sit down. He immediately told me not to sit,
reached for my passport, stamped it and said, "This will be brief, I don't want you getting sick in my office! I
assume you are a tourist and you may leave now."
Chuck in Northern New England
Thanks for sharing..
ОтветитьMy poor uncle got a girl pregant at 17 and my grandmother made him choose his child or the family, Unfortunly being a scared kid he choose to give up his right. He was so upset he just came home said I joined the navy. he ha never even seen the ocean. now that he died at 50 from a heart attack. Looking at his photos his time sailing was the best of his life, he was discharged for a thyroid crisis . I bet he would of been a merchant salior had he been well, comming back to a land locked provience was the end for him
Ответитьnice vid
