Haven't built a PC in many years, and was confused by the description of "modular" on the power supplies I was shopping for. Had absolutely no idea what "modular" meant. Kids of today have things so easy! Back in my day the cables were all attached, and we LIKED it. Thanks for the knowledge.

There is one other benefit to modular style supplies. A lot of them have a set number of outputs, but you can pick the other end of the connector you need. For instance, if you only have SATA drives and nothing that uses a 4 pin molex, you can just use modular cables with SATA ends instead of adapters to convert molex pins to SATA style. It's not just about being clean, it's about being able to pick the connectors you need most.

Be honest with yourself - you really have no way of knowing, save dissecting the caps - and even then, it may require in-depth chemical analysis.

Go ahead jam all the wires in a corner. that's dumb. I have a pair of side cutting plyers that makes any psu modular. I always trim off connectors not needed, and neatly wire the devices with a minimal of wire. sata connectors can be removed from the cable and put wherever you want them. All you need is a punch down tool to reinstall them. All other wires can be manipulated with solder, cutters and shrink-wrap. I have a box full of all the connector wires I have saved from old or bad psu's which helps on a psu install job. I dislike the modular units because you can't see the color coded wires. I like the colors. All my wiring jobs look neat and trim and have good air flow. I had a psu and it seems like the motherboard connector was like three feet long. It took me about three hours to make it fit perfect to the motherboard and now it looks swell. So give up you lego mentality and learn how to solder. I know it's a bit much for everyone to do, so if you can't tackle it hire a tech who can. When it's done you'll be proud to show it off to your friends and girls like it too.

Another benefit of fully modular is easier troubleshooting. Just had to swap out a power supply with a different one to work out if the PSU was dead.

You should see my crazy ass precision t3600 im building you know how some pc builders when they are making test units they screw it to a piece of wood thats literally my PC haha its mainly stock and it has 20GB its gonna be a low end gaming PC it only has to play old games like gta 4

But when I buy a new drive and need another power connector, I'll have to find where I put the spare ones. The ideal place to put the spare ones is... in the side of the case!

When you have a magical thing called a Power Supply Shroud it doesn't matter if you have a non modular psu because you can just stuff them un used cables in the empty hard drive bay or in the basement.

Seasonic is that a good brand for a power supply ? ( Seasonic 550W 80+ Platinum fully modular)
