Hiking Season Begins!

Just a walk along my road.

I went on my first hike of the season a week ago – 9.3 miles in Bigelow Hollow State Park, CT. It kicked my ass. So, this week I’ve been walking every day after work, trying to build back up to some sort of fitness level to hike without feeling like I want to curl up and die…

I think most of my issue on my hike was with my boots, although they are the same boots I hiked with all last year and they never gave me any issues. But, I bought a pair of Altra Olympus and have been using them for my walks each day. They feel good, and I’ll take them on my first actual hike soon.

Each day this week, I felt like I was really pushing myself, and couldn’t go any faster, or harder up the hills. They all averaged 3.0 or 3.1 mph. But today, I felt like I was taking it easy, not pushing, just felt like I was going at a leisurely pace. But in the end, looking at the stats on my GPS, I averaged 2.9 mph, so not that much slower than when I felt like I was really pushing myself. I’m hoping this means I am getting back into hiking shape.

My next hike is coming up in a few days, so stop by again to see if I did better than my first hike this past Sunday. 😊
