I got this thing recently, and I'm not disappointed. It runs anything, anywhere lightning fast.

why not just use Process Lasso Pro? assign the Cores you want for the game and done, basically what Xbox app does but your manually doing it (you could then have the other half of the CPU be running background apps or even your stream apps, whilst the other half does the gaming. the fact they are both 8 cores each side, you basically have a two computer setup, running your streaming setup)

For pure gaming the 7800X3D is great, silent and easy to keep cool, but if you want a more flexible setup go with the 14900K as it delivers in games and all applications, including single core tasks, emulation and AI. Power consumption in idle and low workload is also better, so if you surf or do light office work on the system a lot, you may even save money compared to AMD. Task scheduling is much better on a 14900k than on the 7950X3D, so Intel saves you a lot of headaches. There are a few games that also have problems with E-Cores and could profit from something like Process Lasso, but you don't need it all the time to get the best performance.

do you plan any callouts on userbenchmarks? they seem to really hate the idea of amd providing a beatdown on intel, and modify the reviews accordingly

I have a question. What if the 7950X3D had the V cache spread across both at 64Mb per ccd? Would that not improve the performance across both CCD's while gaming?

The AMD 7950X3D is on sale for $587. Seems like a dang good value at that price point.

This actually adds more confusion. I'm planning on buying a new system in the next week or two and the benchmarks are all over the place. I'm not price sensitive, but I'm a little concerned about turning off half the CPU to play games. I do watch videos on a secondary monitor while I'm playing and I'm hearing some nightmares about the heat issues with AMD.

I'm trying to decide between the 7950X3D or Intel's "rip off" 14th generation. I really wish gamers Nexus would weigh in on all of them in this review but The conclusion sounds like it was AMD specific for the most part.

This is what I always dislike about benchmark reviews. AMD clearly has a winner here in some test, but it's never painted positive.

Been actually looking at upgrading my threadripper 3970x to either the 7950x3d or the i9 13000 ks and it looks like the i9 would be better overall for unreal engine game development and gaming then the amd chipset. What are your thoughts on i9 13900 ks vs the amd 7950x3d for unreal dev and gaming ?

It’s amazing how many seem not to understand the fact that this $700 CPU was not made for “just gaming” in mind.

So to suggest it’s somehow a “ripoff” simply defies logic.

This is a 16 core CPU and is obviously not for “just gaming” but is very useful for MANY tasks outside of gaming and hence has value in this regard.

The same can be said of the 12 core 7900X3D.

Personally I haven’t seen a good reason (the X3D advantage is generally in games when you’re already at 120fps +..) to opt for the X3D chips over the still very good standard X models when it comes to gaming / production.

A great “overall” value CPU is the 12 core R9 7900X which can often be had for just $380-$400.

Gaming and streaming in one system is sounding really good with this cpu. Maybe the parked CPU’s is a blessing in disguise? ? Maybe if there’s a way to split the parked CPU’s to encode on obs ? So that way your getting the best of both worlds ? Idk what do you guys think chat ?

After using 12900k I realized that power efficiency matters. I used a 360 liquid cooler and the temperature creeps up to 95+ after a while running cinebench r23. Initially I was able to hit 27000 in R23. But a year later, it could never pass 25000 (due to thermal throttles) and the temperature jumps to 100+ within a few minutes. I spent countless hours to reapply the thermal paste but I didn’t have any success. Now I decided to switch to 7950x3d. I’m sure any AIO and air cooler can handle 160W max TDP.

hi. I get everything your putting across. I recently bought a RYZEN 9 7950X3D B650+wifi, rtx 3070Ti . 32 ram. 1000w corsair psu gold. I put my order into PC specialist and OMG on stock knocks the rocks. So i don't see any reason to mess with Bios default settings and my temperatures are under 50c. Games run like a dream. FPS is like just awesome. PC specialist did the works. ( they are a UK company ) They set it up to perfection. Complete with Corsair Frost freeze tower air cooling, armour crate, iCUE and firestorm LED control app. Packing was awesome and i just switched it on. Now thats what i call service. All these tweaks and stats don't actually do anything more than what i paid for. So does it matter ? NO. better to leave it to what the the experts set it to. I know i could get more out of what i've got. But its minimal. Its not worth the effort and Yes, start tweaking and guess what. BOOM. I guarantee you will mess it up. Leave it alone.

With my 7950X3D, same corsair memory and overclocked (+100 Mhz core, + 999Mhz memore, +25% more power) MSI 4080 Suprim X and managed a score of 360 on Shadow of the Tomb raider at 1080p, ultra settings. Just a 5.93% in difference from the 4090 they are used!

Also tested FFXIV - Average framerate of 308.5 - How is this possible? I checked each graphic setting and made sure they were all at the highest yet still got a higher number than everything on the list.

My question is, for production, the 7950x is better, but taking into consideration the normal operation temperature / energy spent, how much louder are the fans keeping it cool than the 7950x3d? because the performance difference is not so high, so if we're talking about a big DB difference I'd go with the 3d.

You need to turn off game mode and set high performance or ultimate performance if you use Prefer frequency or core affinity.
You have user error on the prefer frequency, correct setup will yield identical results as non 3D in CS go

I'm learning a ton watching your channel thanks so much. I never understood what Xbox game bar really did nor did I understand how the power profile is designed for. I wanna say on my 5800x3d I was running game bar off with a performance power profile. Not sure if the older platform matters for that but now I know. 👍👍

What gets me as a programmer I can think of a number of ways to id which programs will make good use of the extra cache and which one's won't. Start with anything that belongs to the OS itself just dump on the non extra cache. Then anything that calls sends to the GPU put on an extra cache, AI, database, sound, physics all could make better use of extra cache. They could id those in the OSes thread manager. It would be more efficient if game developers just set the thread affinity. Seems AMD made that fairly simple because it will always be the lower 8 cores 0 through 7. So setting thread affinity to those cores will prevent any issue to start with. That's an easy fix to put in a game.
