I don't know in England, but we in Spain when we talk about step mother, we do it In a peyorative way
Is it the same there?
So,we call our grand grandfather or grand grandmother ancestors, because they are or were direct parents of us?
ОтветитьIn Spain we call madrastra to a step mother
ОтветитьIn Brazil, small children treat everyone that they don't know as uncle or aunt, and that's ok, but if an adolescent calls anyone uncle/aunt could be a little offensive.
ОтветитьIn Georgian we also use auntie and uncle when we refer to older individuals. Funny and educational
ОтветитьHere in Brazil children call their teacher "uncle" (tio) and "aunt" (tia).

ОтветитьThank you, Gill, for a great lesson! Here in Russia kids would use uncle/aunty to call other grownups if they don't know their names, or add the name to it if a grownup is a friend of the family. Full names are quite long and you have to use a paternal name as well, which can be difficult, and that's rather formal, so to keep it more informal and yet show your respect towards a grownup kids use uncle or aunty🙂
ОтветитьThank you very much

ОтветитьIn Latin America, a boy or a girl could call their mums or dads best friends, "aunt" or "uncle". It refers to a close friendship (so usual in Latin America) between the adults, which turns them into the aunts or uncles of each other's children. And we also use it for pets: if my best friend leaves me her cat to take care for, i'll be the cat's aunt since its mum is my best friend/ sister.
ОтветитьYou also have the extremely informal american ways: fadda, madda, bradda, sistta.
ОтветитьThank you mom i love you, and i like your lessons
