Ответить710 vs 710+ which one is better?
ОтветитьThanks for the Franklin review. I’ve been pulling my hair out with a Zircon! I’m seriously wondering if they’re all junk. But I’m gonna give the Franklin a try. According to Ron Paulk....”he can make them all work...no problem”. (He must be a stud sensor whisperer) But that’s not my experience😢.
ОтветитьCrap, it identifies power lines but treats them like it would a stud. Instant deal breaker!
Ответить"trusted ruler" says "made in China" lol
ОтветитьI just received my Franklin stud sensor and it works exactly as described. My final take is it works great for fire blocks where the don't screw the drywall down, and any other wall where they do not use screws like lath and plaster. For my day to day TV installations, I will stick with my stud buddy. It is small, fast and fits in my tool belt.
ОтветитьIt’s OK for people to have a different opinion, but not different facts. You’re telling people that magnetic stud finders only work on metal studs and that’s patently false! The way that a magnetic stud finder works, is it finds metal. If you find a drywall screw, you have found a stud easy Peezy. I’ve been using one for years and it’s my go to stud finder. Where are the Franklin sensor comes in handy is when there’s laugh and plaster and no nails to stick to. Which is why I ordered one…
ОтветитьFalse! Even with wood studs magnetic studs sensors are the best since they attach to metal screws to find the studs
ОтветитьPurchased recently on Amazon for some home improvement work. First stud finder purchase...and a great investment.

Maybe your Chinese ruler is not good.
ОтветитьReally appreciate the review...I’ve currently a Zircon i520 and it COMPLETELY SUCKS...I’m gonna be buying the Franklin 710+
ОтветитьI own two of these. If I leave the batteries in them for more than a week the tool is useless until I replace the batteries with fresh ones. So I started removing the batteries at the end of the day and placing back in my pack-out.
ОтветитьGood fair review. I hang a lot of monitors for my job. I`ll tell you where the Zircon type fails miserably, and I've experienced this over and over. It's when an unknown backer board has been installed maybe years ago and no longer used, or when a short stud piece is used as a spacer in order to position an outlet, or basically anything other than a non-standard stud. My Zircon would be so lost that it was 100% useless, and even a magnet didn't help in that case. (Speaking of magnets, it's a big assumption to think every drywaller hits the center every time all the time in every wall - ridiculous) So I tried the "walabot" which looks amazing but what an inaccurate joke that thing was. Eventually tried this and ...freaking miracle... it shows exactly what I need to see, even when it's not what I'm expecting. I'm only talking drywall, which is the only type I experience in medical offices. No idea about plaster. Technically I have the X1100 from Lowes but it's basically the 710+.
ОтветитьDoes it work with Stucco?
ОтветитьI'm sold on this device.
ОтветитьSo you don't have to "go crazy" , I'll tell you how to use the zircon capacitive stud sensor. Place it on the wall where you think there are NO studs. That's about 8" either side of the wall plug. (You should know this being a carpenter) The sensor must find a reference point to determine when density changes. Push the button , let it sit on the wall for 3 seconds then move it SLOWLY horizontally with an even pressure against the wall. It WILL find the edge of the stud, keep moving slowly and it WILL find the other edge of the stud. OK, I think you DO know how to work the Zircon unit just fine but this makes better Videos....... I still use my 25 Year old Zircon Contractor model today. It works just fine. You can buy the best tools money can buy, but if your not skilled with them they won't work well. I would put money your a skilled carpenter too.
ОтветитьI like this. Definitely going to buy one of these devices. I need to mount my tv but the other sensor I had was giving me issues. Thank you for this video sir.
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьVery Helpful Video.
Thank you!
I've had the SAME EXACT RESULT with other devices, thought it was just me 😂. This new device is the way to go
ОтветитьI want one!
ОтветитьI like it how he sensed the stud against the doorframe on the lath and plaster wall - He then conned us by releasing the button when it continued to show the stud after he had moved it - The sensor looks good but we need an honest revue to make a judgement
ОтветитьI just bought a walabot for $50 in Amazon it's very good shows image of wires ,pipes and studs. Detects up to 4 inches
ОтветитьIt's worth paying $55 for this, just to not have to deal with 9v batteries. Who the hell has spare 9v batteries?!
ОтветитьSold. Thanks, Kenny.
ОтветитьThank you for checking your comment about the rulers accuracy.
ОтветитьHi Kenny I thought you were going to say your wife found a good stud ;) I also have a zircon drives me crazy too I thought it was me user error. thx for the heads up.
ОтветитьKen, I have always had a problem using stud sensors with any accuracy. As soon as I get my hand near them they go crazy. I have found that if I wear my lead suit and heavy high voltage rubber gloves I am at least able to pick them up. Home centers just hate it when I go near the displays. Seriously, good review and this does seem like an instrument that is worth the extra money. Thanks for sharing.
ОтветитьSensors are cool to have, but man, you nailed it in one quote.."Know whats in your walls". Little while back I had to add a clothes rack to a closet. Sensor gave me some weird wall to wall reading for a 2x2. Lucky my brain kicked in (happens some times lol) cut a inspection hole....turned out two main water pipes to the hot water heater were in that wood. Two seconds with a drill, major cost. Good vid captin' :-).
ОтветитьGreat little video Ken, living in Eng most of our walls in the houses are brick made, i say most as there are some Plaster Board walls, if someone want's to put up a wall to separate a room or something.
I use a Bosch Sensor that detects wood, wires, and metal and that lights up like New Years Day Celebrations, but it's the best one i have used yet. I used it once to detect some wires in the kitchen wall that i was drilling into, and it worked spot on. Glad your sensor suits your needs as everyone has different uses for them.

I think all of the Zircon model use the same crappy sensor regardless of price. Their more expensive models just offer more modes or details that are just as inaccurate. Total junk brand in my experience.
ОтветитьCostco carries a clone to this with a different name for a cheaper price.
ОтветитьI've bought 3 sensors over the years. None of them worked. Just like you demonstrated. Zircon, DeWalt, don't have a clue. Even on simple drywall.
ОтветитьGreat show Kenny thanks for sharing with us this amazing item .
ОтветитьI've had a Franklin Sensor for 8+ years now. Mine is the predecessor to yours (mine does not have the level or scale). I bought it after experiencing the same frustrations as you had with other faulty sensors. The Franklin had the best reviews at that time so pulled the trigger. It has very seldom let me down, much better than the previous sensors I owned. It does not, however, detect electrical wires or conduit, just structure. Good video Kenny!
