OH NO!!!!! Another hyperbolic panic about population!!! This time, the prophets of doom are warning of population collapse!!!🙄 I have lived through so many predicted "Ends of the World", I stopped keeping count. If it once again became affordable to have larger families, people would start having them.

Through history populations stayed about the same until we managed to produce more food. Once we can surpass the amount of food we can produce the population will start rapidly growing again.

Sustaining capitalism requires more people and more resources exponentially ,and Sustaining our ecology requires less people and less exploitation of resources. We need to stop letting capitalism run government.

Read Bricker & Ibbitson’s book. They argue convincingly population will max out at about 8.8b population, probably in the ‘40’s, then drop quickly. China alone will experience a population decrease of 600m by end of century. India’s fertility rate, too, is already below 2.1.

Solar, wind, electric cars, what's going to make a better planet? Condoms, condoms, condoms. The less people the better. Don't believe Musk and the other want-a-be visionaries, population decline is good news.

Many species, from lemmings to locusts to crabs to passenger pigeons, are known as boom-bust species, with wild swings in their populations. Are humans among them? One look at the exponential growth in the human population over the past 100 years should in itself be enough to suggest that rapid collapse may be imminent, but when you combine it with the knowledge we have about the devastating effects that humans have had on the biosphere, it seems naive to think that the future will follow current trends. Shouldn't we, Instead, consider a non-linear event? It is unpleasant, but I think it is more likely that we will see the human population peak within the next ten years at under 9 billion people. This will be followed by an accelerating collapse, the severity of which will depend on how the many adverse effects of climate change and ecosystem collapse interact to affect human activity. Heat, drought, floods, famine, and violence will further reduce fertility and greatly increase mortality. I would not be surprised if the global population declines to a few billion people by the end of the century. Some pockets may or may not have preserved some aspects of modern technology. The situation could be even worse if the chaos precipitates a nuclear war.

The 1960 s was a good time to have children , people were busy thinking about having a good time , and not thinking about war . You can not scare people into having children , by saying ,OH WE WILL KILL OURSELVES OF AS A SPECIES , IF WE DO NOT HAVE MORE CHILDREN . CONDITIONS HAVE TO BE JUST RIGHT FOR PEOPLE TO WANT TO HAVE CHILDREN , WAR IS NOT A GOOD CONDITION , DROUGHT IS NOT A GOOD CONDITION . HAVING CHILDREN YOU CAN NOT FEED , OR HOUSE , IS JUST PLAIN STUPID . NATURE WILL TAKE ITS COURSE , AND IT HAS BEEN SAID BEFORE , THE BEDROOMS OF THE NATION , IS NO PLACE FOR GOVERNMENT .

The problem with population decline is not the number of people getting too low, that number is arbitrary. It is how to feed everyone, with fewer strong backs to perform the labor. The answer is really very simple, it is the same that has brought us thus far in productivity: automation. Most of those "jobs" aren't things humans actually enjoy doing, so nobody is going to miss them when they are gone. The issue is how to adjust our income and distribution models from those in which human labor is the primary source of income to enable consumption, to something else. In developed economies, energy will supplant human labor as the primary input. Industry will have to accept that if they want customers, they will need to find some way to enable them to afford their products, which doesn't require performance of menial labor. Also, the projections featured might as well be wild guesses, nobody knows what new trends will emerge.

I’d see Bricker & Ibbitson. The UN’s numbers lag. Population will peak at about 8.8 billion, in the 2040’s. By end of century population will be plummeting. China alone will drop by 600 m., assuming current census numbers are not exaggerated.
