For Sony 6K series Cine4 & S-Gamut3.Cine are the best combination actually. If you want less flat image, you can increase saturation al lot. This is good combination for preserving natural skin tones. But using proper colour card for adjusting image profile is essential.

Been shooting on the A7iii for a while now with S-LOG 2, and never really liked how it looked even post grade. Felt the quality was never as good as it should be, the grain was too high despite only shooting on 800 ISO, and the colours never sat right with me. Hoping that Cine 4 with those settings will help me out a lot with preserving quality and colours.

Will this work on the a7iv?

Yo, I know it's a few years since this video was made, but I happened to run into it this morning, and I have to say, this picture profile (with all your settings) in the a6400 is the best I've used. Crazy good. I generally use SLog2, but it's a pain in the as*, obviously, unless you expose perfectly, for the reasons you mention, meaning 8 bit just isn't flexible enough, and so I tried this today, and damn, this looked better than HLG3, or anything else I've tried, other than SLog 2 in extreme circumstances. Thanks so much for sharing this, it is much appreciated. I'm about to begin a big project, and I was feeling like I needed to get a new camera that was 10 bit to really get what we need, but I think I'll get in there with what I have, and maybe upgrade after the film is done. These settings are the bomb! Thanks again!!

Thanks a lot Dude... I have Subscribed, I had a shot yesterday and my Shadow was breaking yes.. The Black Jersey on my A7sii with same setting but on my a6300 things was well looking, I believe ur settings might ease my life... hahahaha thanks a lot for the sharing ....

So for the Sony A6400, S-log 2 & 3 and HLG are not recommended because is an 8-bit instead of 10, would you recommend only using the Cine picture profiles for better results?

The demo with the rubber band is absolutely genius! I agree with you that I do not want color from the camera flat. In Auto the colors seemed too fake, green was especially unrealistic. I am at the moment trying to find something I can do travel Vlog with selfie footage, indoor and outdoor without any changes in post. Is that possible? Any suggestions?

Yes mate you're bang on Re: 8bit vs 10bit vs 12bit. The less bits sampling, the less you can pull or push before you get banding. Combine that with only using a super flat pic profile when you actually NEED it. ie. you have bright highlights next to dark shadows. Otherwise, if you're in a controlled environment (eg. shooting an interview) then you'll get less banding and better image on the picture profile you have to push least

Hi James - great video thanks! Just wanted to ask if you are putting any kind of LUT onto your customised Cine4 profile when you get to your grade? I'm really keen to achieve the kind of look you have on your footage in this video. I just bought an A7Siii and put in your exact settings for PP5, but it doesn't have that kind of look so think I must be missing something? At the moment I'm grading in Premiere Pro but think I need to move onto Da Vinci Resolve. Can I ask what your grading process is for this footage? It looks awesome!

I almost coughed at Color Phase +6. In my experience, skin on the A7SII is always too red, so what do you do? Make it even more red! I'll have to try and see what happens with this.

Hi, do you think using this PP in SONY A7C (8-bit) is ok? I tested it and it looks perfect, though I did not apply any LUTs.

So quick question. Let's say I'm shooting video and I set my profile settings to CINE4. When I'm ready to shoot photography again, do I have to switch all of those settings back to the way they were or would CINE4 work for photography as well?

So, James, it's been over a year since I started using a variation on this setting for myself, and I can quite confidently say it's one of the best picture profiles I've used. I usually use it on my a6500, as I have different settings for the A7Siii I use.

The adjustments I made was reducing the Colour Phase to +2 (because I prefer a redder/orange tone to my skin tones) and reducing the black level to -1 because I feel it just gives a deeper black tone to my low light shoots.

Yes! I have said this for ages - you are using a non-professional camera so it is never going to look exactly like Hollywood. Just get the image close to what you want when you expose and then correct slightly. 8-bit is nowhere near enough to man-handle all over the place. Shoot well, don't try and fix later!

THIS one of the MOST important TUTORIALs / EYE-OPENERs that I was looking for, since a while!
THIS defines realistic people from wannabe-pros. You do not need to use something,
unless you REALLY need it and know what you are doing.
Most of the scenarios, even for musicvideos, short stuff, you do not need S-Logs etc.

I do not need, nor want, to shoot S-Log, just because everyone does it.
I want to EXTRACT what is the BEST from my camera and footage and
not complicate myself needlessly.

P.S. Of course, if you are on a PRO-RES level type of shooting (commercials, etc.) and KNOW / have the gear for what you are doing,
then sure... S-Log makes sense.

Question: on my sony a7rii there's it no S-GAMMUT 3.CINE. There's only S-GAMUT. Will that give the similar/same results?
