honestly, I don't care about 4k OTA broadcasts. if MSBNCBS wants to sell 4k programming, they can stream it on their own pay service. I won't be paying for it because honestly, most TV is "reality" crap as scripted drama et al are "too expensive" for the networks to produce, or so they say.

just my 2c

ATSC 3.0 isn’t being discussed in Canada, ATSC 1.0 also for that matter. The TV Networks here aside from the CBC are owned and operated by Pay TV - Internet Companies. They also control Radio and the News Media so they have no incentive to tell people they can watch TV for free. Good luck at finding a store that displays and sells TV antennas and be careful on Amazon, they sell a lot of junk.

We need more affordable boxes & affordable TV's with the new ATSC 3.0 with 1.0 compatibility for now. Not enough hitting the market. Not even available at Walmart yet. I thought Hisense was gonna release a bunch of affordable TVs with the new format in it. Nothing at Walmart yet I've seen. I think it's moving way to slow. I was excited about it when I first learned about it but starting to lose interest in the new technology. How much longer do I haft to wait for it?

Broadcast TV broadcasting is crashing in Australia. It's shrinking significantly. Also dying is pay-TV.

Free streaming TV isn't free. You have to pay for internet access to stream.

Two points of fact here; 1, if the FCC lets them get away with this then we all know they are bought and paid for because we are talking about OTA TV,! FREE TV! So it's free to air anywhere you are in the country anyway. So their claim of trying to stop piracy is a moot point and just an excuse if you ask me. and point 2, the networks doing this just so happen to be the owners of streaming services. What a coincidence! So those here saying this is an attempt to do away with OTA in favor of getting you to pay for a streaming service isn't too far from the truth. it's wrong but we the consumer are always getting screwed in favor of big money. Look what the FCC did with allowing them to auction off frequencies and we lost channels.

ATSC 1.0 works perfectly fine, it's just finicky on weak signals, really the only "upgrade" I see for ATSC 3.0 is being more robust and less fragile of a signal, which would be great for Low VHF, which is great for rural coverage. 4K doesn't matter to me, HD is perfectly adequate, especially for classic TV which is most of what I watch.

Digital television is complete bull sh*t.
I never had as hard of time trying to get a decent picture and sound. Broadcast tv is indeed dead. My tv is a piece of crap. It's a vizio digital smart tv. It's not worth the box it came in.

Currently I don't have any TV as I watch TV on my computer and Android phones. I am leary that ASTC 3 will include DRM as you mentioned elsewhere today. DRM stinks and that would be a major reason not to get an ASTC 3 TV.

I don't know what's on broadcast TV these days because I don't have paid cable TV and don't use an antenna. Besides that, I don't miss broadcast TV because I work 5 days a week. I do have a 43" 4K UHD TV, but I last turned it on to watch Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker on 1080p Blu-ray when it came out.

In my opinion, if a worst case scenario happens where Streaming Services completely overtakes over the air TV in usage/popularity, I think OTA television will stay around in a form similar to those NWS Severe Weather radios.

Case in point, Streaming Services currently rely on the internet (phone lines) to broadcast their signal and if it goes out in a storm, an OTA television signal will still be freely available assuming the TV station has it's own emergency generator.

The only thing i watch is broadcast TV. So what are we going to do about sports if it's dying? I doubt if its dying. How would News shows run?? Too many reasons why it will never go away. We use it for emergencies, all kinds of reasons. How would we receive our breaking news about the shooters outside or the snowfall or any other urgent thing that can come up?

We've had ATSC 3.0 in the Nashville market for several years. The pandemic had a big impact on ATSC 3.0 rollout and the lack of converter boxes and chipsets for TV manufacturers.

Over-the-air will never go away as long as streaming services (like Frndly) don't play the same programs as over-the-air. Example: Last night, ME-TV aired a newer, colorized version of The Bev. Hillbillies on Frndly, while over-the-air had an older b&w version. Frndly never airs Decades/Catchy's "The Odd Couple" while over-the-air does. Do you know why this is, Tyler?

The fact you cant stream the local channels without a cable login is a huge mistake. Local broadcasters should show up on services like Pluto, Tubi and the likes as well as pushing Antenna TVs.

About the only time I watch local networks is during a weather event. The news around here, is all woke and very politically bent. The TV shows, more woke. I tend to stream, but keep the excellent Antenna recommended by "The Antenna Man". Just wish there was something worth watching... Everything has gone so political and woke, I tend to stream music more than watch anything.

Most just want affordable Over The Air Internet ???
This is an untapped revenue stream, that could easily get between $5-$10 a month for this type of service, since it won't be high speed anyway.

When I was a kid in the 2000s I had a grey megavox CRT with a antenna I only got a few channels on that then my TV broke so yeah so I didn't have antenna television for a while after that until high school when I got my first flat screen television but I was stupid and broke that too then eventually got my parents old Panasonic TV after they went to a smart tv and I was shocked if how many channels there were and I liked antenna television ever since I got a another smart TV when we moved in to a new house last January 2022 and had a crappy old antenna that was annoying to use I had to use that for a while eventually at target I found a antenna that you were talking about on your show the Philips one and I love it it sits pretty well next to my switch on a pop fig it's awesome I love it a lot it's easy for me to move the ears around without getting frustrated or mad at it and if I wanted to hang it up I can I got a lot of channels out of it as well I love it a lot

It probably is dead because its hard to get signals. I my area I cannot pick up, ABC, CBS, NBS, FOX. Unless I pay for an outdoor antenna. Even then its not guaranteed. So I don't watch any over the air for this reason alone. They shot down that streaming company that would stream locals.

It needs to die - and be replaced by an open-source model enabling independent content providers access to broadcast - it would be very easy to implement - it would encourage REAL democracy and "press" in America - but it would take overcoming corporate interests and political interests that have a stranglehold on free speech

Here is the game plan as I see it by the owners of the big 3 TV networks: create a digital paywall (Paramount+, Disney+, Peacock) while at the same time offer free programming (ie. Pluto TV, etc.) with the ultimate goal of luring free subscribers to pay for "premium" content. In the not too distant future, all your favorite shows on the broadcast networks will require you to sign up to the digital paywall while those free channels will basically be commercials to get you to sign up.

Let's be honest, there will never be 4K ota content. The greedy station owners would prefer the income of having multiple bandwith stealing HD channels on their signal instead of one 4K signal. Just like we have now with ATSC 1.0 with many 480i channels and one HD channel.

I enjoy watching your videos, Tyler. I am totally with you as far as wanting to watch antenna TV for the superior picture quality. In fact, I got tired of the cable companies and cut the cord in 1996. However, there is one area where I have a problem - sports programming often runs way over the scheduled time (and I am NOT a sports fan). As a result, the scheduled programming is screwed up for hours after the sports program and consequently, the program I had set my Homeworx (thanks also for your review of that) device up to record, is very delayed and my recording only has the first part of my show. Do you have any ideas for dealing with that issue?

Is Air TV 2 ATSC 3 compatible?
In our household, we use an OTA antenna hooked up to the Air TV 2 with Sling TV's Freestream. We also pay for Philo, and we use Stremium to merge all of that into one TV guide.
This is a pretty nice setup. hundreds of channels for only $35/mo. However. I know very little about this new ATSC 3 technology. I just wanna know if I have to make changes to this set-up in a few years?
