Oculus Rift S VR Headset Review | Is this headset worth it? Should you upgrade?

Rather just get a quest 2 or quest 3

I finally got a VR headset, thanks to you! The Oculus Rift S. I was honestly nearly in tears when the little robot showed up and had given me the floppy’s. I gotta say it was like a sensory boner lol I’ve never felt such an immense sensory overload. My only fuss so far is the weird suction pressure around my eyes. Also the small amount of free games to get me hooked. I also have no idea what ips adjustment does, I need to do some research/testing.

Looking back at these old videos compared to ThrillSeeker's new content.. I can say you've improved so much in just a few years

It's a great headset. but it had had a lot of software issues and can really take up a lot of your time getting it to work

rift s never works i just spent 3 days with tech support i finally tossed it in the trash

ive had this headset for a year and had no problems with it

I sold the Rift S and purchased the quest 2, probably the best decision I've made in VR gaming.

Quest 2 better

It feels weird watching this now nowing that there is a stand-alone headset with better resuloution than all the most popular headsets at the time this video was released.


And also, this video isn’t super old either, it’s not like watching a WII U review or a PS3 review. It was literally less than 2 years ago. VR is evolving so fast, it’s mind blowing

i chose the rift over the 2 because i didnt wanna spend 100 dollars on shipping a link cable to my country

I love my rift S but man am I having connection problems
It disconnects with a USB problem if i don’t use it for a while when it’s on (basically when I take breaks)
I always have to sit around 10 minutes to get it to work each time I start my computer
I also have to re calibrate now and then
Either it’s my computer being retarded or I got a pretty faulty headset
Either way, when it works I am having a blast
I may just be one of the unlucky ones with a shit computer or fault headset but I still recommend this headset
Also pretty blurry resolution in most games I have, but I suppose that’s because my computer is the close minimum to play VR

i got a rift s for christmas, been using it everyday and its a blast

i think its a good starter headset

I ordered mine yesterday, super hyped

right now would be the best time to order one because on the oculus website its going for 300 dollars right now

has this issue that was resolved with the tracking system from what gather th tracking system uses AI in a limited degree and perhaps the AI is just buggy at the time this video was released

IS THERE A MICROPHONE ON RIFT S??? This is strangely something I have not yet seen mentioned on any video. Necessary for VR chat type games.

I got a rift S (just before discontinued) and really see little difference in image quality between it and CV1 (except blacks are not quite as black). The biggest advantage is ditching the external sensors.

If the quest 2 ends up being not as good as I hoped, I’m going with this.

so I have a 1060 3gb and I just got a vr should I be able to run games? in vr? I have a i7 7700K as well

Guess what - the display in my Rift S just kinda dies sometimes and I need to unplug the headset and plug it back in for it to work, but then it happens again, but not at the same time as before, kinda like a timer starts whenever I play a game.
It seems to be fixed but I doubt that it's completely gone. Certainly a good starter VR headset, but bugs like these makes the Rift S easily replaceable.

I've been having some crazy issues with my Rift S this week.. Bought it February 2020 and now it keeps shutting off with a brief high pitched noise,followed by some static then a black screen.. I've upgraded all the drivers,windows trouble shooting with Oculus etc..No joy.. I'm currently waiting for Oculus to decide whether to replace it or not..

honestly, I wouldn't upgrade from my rift to the s. It feels like a step backwards at some points to me. Especially with the headphones and tracking. The tracking on my rift is great haven't had a single problem with it. up until now from the headsets I've used I'd stick to my rift or upgrade to the index.

They are sold out everywhere due to the virus! Finally got the money saved to get one...really hope I can get it soon. Been wanting to get into VR for years now.

for those wondering about iPD if you have used or tried out a PSVR its the exact same system only difference is the rift S has a lower refresh rate and has a higher resolution. if you didn't have problems playing on the psvr you won't have issues with the rift S.

Just wondering, how responsive is Oculus to help requests? I am considering getting this headset since I'm in a small dormitory.

love the rift s however it hates me i bought a second since the first one died because reasons, and now every time i try to use it it says it's connected but refuses to turn on but when it does it is broken in a infinite loading screen, probably my computer just my luck...
can't forget the tracking issue that every time that the controllers vibrate even the smallest bit, they go to the 10th dimension and casually slides 10 ft away uncontrollably after a second they become controllable again making games like pavlov unplayable HELP!!!

I'm gonna be getting this for my first vr headset and my first vr experience i'm keeping money for it in my country it's 500 euros since its not for sale on the oculus store or any other shop as far as i know only on websites.

The rift s does have some pretty major flaws. Similar to the way your index has a fatal flaws, the rift s simply doesn't last. If you spend a lot of time in vr during a single session your rift s wont make it. I play for hours and hours... and hours on end and now the headset just randomly crashes entirely. I have tried every fix there ever was, dead. The rift s is a great headset when it works, but as with any lenovo product, the long lasting quality simply isn't there.

my Rift s got broken in less than 3 mnds of light use , but it is okay a new one is on its way , no question asked just deliver the old one where I bought it and get a new one , but find it strange it just died on me , I have had psvr since launch and it still works perfect

I've had 2880 x 1440 (1440 x 1440 per eye) for ages. Granted it is DELL VR. Maybe time for a resolution downgrade and a tracking upgrade

I didn’t have any rift s problems I’ve had mine for a few months with about 200 hours in with minimal problems

Got my Rift S, tried it for 5 days and here’s what I think. I don’t like it in my opinion, because no IPD adjustment makes it VERY limited to users. Comfort is another thing, it’s hard to get a perfect fit on your head. I returned my Rift S today, and I’m now going to wait for the Valve Index to be available and purchase that instead.

1. Cheap plastic. Controllers are literally cheap garbage.
2. Weight bigger than CV1. Also front heavy at the same time.
3. Latency on Link is the worst
4. FOV smaller than CV1
5. No big visible difference between pixel density compared to CV1.
6. Worse tracking.
Conclusion: ABSOLUTE TRASH

The rift s is weird with usb ports yeah.
