In your tests, did you pair the 5800x3D with a AMD/Nvidia GPU? With AMD gpu, you can enable SAM (smart access memory) for about 5-10% improvement. SAM + V-Cache is a big factor over 5800x. More quality RAM and nvme storage will add even more FPS, but this applies to every system.

I prefer these old 5000 series cpu with their full flat screen surface. The new am5 cpu must bevbad to clean or apply thermal paste. The design, is it to let it pass the heat ? This is bad. I prefer to upgrade to 5900x 5950x. And new am5 memory controller and quality of slot seems bad., as well as temp and reliability. All the design seems to have been accelerated to deploy pcie5 and ddr5 as soon as possible to get back on Intel. I hope their zen 5 will be better with better motherboard and reasonable temp, and solid reliability or i will go back to Intel with the 15900k

Hi @Hardwareunboxed i'm looking for an upgrade for my rig. It's an old setup with a Ryzen 3 3100, B450 Aorus Elite MB, 32gb 3200mhz and an old GTx970. Games i play World of tanks, Forza Horizon, Transport fever 2. I'm trying to figure out if the 40% price diference is realy worth in my curent setup. I have plans for a new GPU but not realy soon and mostlikly will be a mid range one.

Built my recent desktop at the end of 2021. 5800x3d didn't exist. I went with the 5800x. 5900x or 5950x would have helped lower my video render time, but, the 5800x seemed like a good choice for me. And I am happy with it. With so little upgrade options now on AM4, I don't know if I'll bother getting another CPU. But this did for sure show the increase. I play at 1080x60, and I can max all games I play with my 3060ti (RT Off). The 5800x3d would give me maybe another year of newer games before going under that 60fps. But, by that time I'll just build a new system. The 3D chips do seem pretty awesome though. I'll wait until the 8000 or 9000 series AMD CPU's until I build new again.

I'm thinking of upgrading from my 5600x to the 5800x3D, not trying to go next generation, as I don't wanna spend more money on a new motherboard. Would the 5800x3D help allot in VR games? (I know thats a broad question, but is mostly what I play) (Also I have a 3090, so I was wondering if my 5600x is bottlenecking it a little, probably is)

I'm grateful you added Valorant to the benchmarks. Was even more surprised to see it being the first one shown. I'd like to recommend when testing Valorant, it should be in an actual match. Unrated or Rank to see the actual fps gain cause Deathmatch, The Range or Custom Lobby (on your own) tend to bring out more fps than the actual matches😊

Might consider this for my aging AM4 system. The 2600X isn't helping with frame stutters in heavy action scenes. I've crashed or died multiple times because of it...

Hey @Hardwareunboxed

So, here's the deal. I've got this PC with an AMD 4650G on a MAG B550 motherboard, and I'm itching to upgrade it this year. Your videos have been a lifesaver for me in researching CPUs and GPUs, man! As an intern, I'm knee-deep in ML stuff, so I'm on the hunt for a cool midrange build that won't break the bank, and I don't wanna mess with replacing the motherboard.

After crunching some numbers, I've come up with a few options:

1. Go for the AMD 5800x with an AMD RX 6800x GPU. Seems like a decent budget-friendly choice, right?
2. Or, I could spend a bit more with the AMD 5800xd and pair it with an AMD RX 6950x GPU. Honestly, this would be a great value combo for anyone.
3. Or, future proofing with the AMD 7700 + Nvidia 3080 Ti (or AMD RX 6950x). Not sure if my current motherboard can handle that combo.

I do like to unwind with some gaming, like Valorant and CS:Go, but my main concern is my ML work. It's been strugglin' a bit lately, mainly 'cause of that darn 2GB VRAM bottleneck.

Any suggestions, folks? Hit me up with your thoughts!

I've just made the upgrade from the 5800x to the 5800x3d when it dipped to $300. Was able to upgrade my RAM from 32gb @ 3600mhz to 4400mhz and the CPU from the 5800x to the 3d version for about $160 after selling my old components. Since I'll be riding with this setup and my 3080 for quite a while I'm pretty happy with AM4. It was definitely a worthy upgrade. I'm seeing a roughly 20% increase in performance across the board with the same temps despite my 5800x being clocked consistently at 5.0ghz and the 3d version at only 4.4ghz. This is the best $300 cpu since sandy bridge.

I was currently planing a final upgrade to my am4 system. Still running a 3600. Its still doing a fine job but at times I just feel that I could really use a bit more performance. Now even after this video I am not sure wich one to get.

I can get a non 3d for 199€ and a x3d for 288€

Now... is the price difference big enough that the non 3d would be the better "bang for the buck" or should I just get the x3d version? Whats your perspective as an expert on this?

this CPU is good for heavy VR games, it helps with frame times. Something like DCS or ACC which are very CPU demanding run smoothly as butter in VR with that giant cache.

Just picked up the 5800x3d after using the 5800x for a year and yes, it was worth the upgrade for me as I play on a 240hz 1440p monitor with a EVGA 3080 ftw3 and mainly play MW2 and Halo infinite. The gameplay is much smoother and stays at a consistent around 240 fps in MW2 as I cap the frame rate at 237. If someone was considering it, I say go for it as I got it for $289. The time I'm playing right now with the x3d is worth it compared to the time I would be waiting for it to get lower in price.
