A very late entry for your poll: I am stumped with PROXMOX 8.0-2. I installed from a DVD to bare metal i7 box with no visible issues. Except, fstab shows only ext4 file system, no mounts. I think this is preventing final step in adding Home Assistant as VM, or any VM. That is, following the steps I end up with zero bytes of disk space consumed by the install using the provided web interface port 8006. I see with your 6.x install many more options provided by the web interface. My impression is PROXMOX has locked down many features so I either have a crippled version for demo purposes or there are many more undocumented hacks necessary to get a running hobby system. I am having similar problems trying to get Home Assistant up on Debian 12 using KVM install as explained in Debian 12 documentation with either aqemu or virt-manager gui. This vid is got me thinking docker is worth a try.

The persistent problem with learning new linux things is not the grasping of concepts. Rather it is consistently how much the documentation is so far behind the code. As of 10/23 the PROXMOX forum is pretty useless for example; only ONE post relevant to 8.0-2. Home Assistant instructions for installing under KVM has steps that have no counterpart in the virt-manager interface.

Many thanks for this vid which has stimulated my thinking. Would you kindly reply if you know whether PROXMOX has hardened their latest images?

Question! I want to create a website with the data/downloads for the website on a seperate volume, with ubuntu server on an m.2 ssd and the data served by a raid5(ssd) array created via the onboard intel raid controller on my server.
This should be possible right? Anything i need to be careful of?

I used a Supermicro server for my home lab. I initially installed Proxmox. I have now installed VMWare ESXi.

What exactly do I need to do to provide the following fields with data: IP Address, Netmask, Gateway and DNS Server? or does Proxmox fill in this information on its own? What do I have to provide in Hostname? I need to leave the start with pve., but what should I write after?

Thanks for this video! Played with Proxmox a little bit once before, but I am now ready to set it up for real at home. Coincidentally, Optiplex 3040 is exactly the hardware that I have which is idle right now, that I was going to use for the Proxmox server. Perfect!

Using Proxmox for hosting VMs for media servers, and spinning up LXC's for quick tests. Have used VMWare, but mostly use Virtual Box now for testing configs on my desktop vs on the server. Will be teaching myself Docker and Kubernetes going forward.

This was well done and helpful - thank you!
Call to action: I've used MS Hypervisor, VMWare, and VirtualBox, with Virtualbox being my most used. I'm trying to see if QEMU, Proxmox would better suit my needs for a home lab use case. 😀

CTA: I run a number of VMs on my local network. I use VMWare, was asking myself about migration before you answered it in your video.

I'm not yet using any virtualization methods but I'm learning and would like to try some of these techniques for home lab... awesome video for teaching!
