The Silent Hill Everyone Really Hated

Something I never hear mentioned is how the whole pregnancy/childbirth theme in this game is not only completely random and out of place, but rings so hollow coming from a male perspective in an entirely male-centered game. These themes made sense in silent hill 3 because heather WAS pregnant, and the entire cult wanted her to birth a god. The womanly/sexual horror made sense in 2 (and 4) because of James’s sexual frustration and Walter’s hatred towards his own mother. Alex’s mother is not a villain in this game, or at the very least, isn’t treated like one by Alex. And he shows no signs of sexual thoughts whatsoever (unless you count his diary entry where he talks about how sexy the military nurses are. So what, hes experiencing monstrous manifestations of something that he made up in his head??). And the last boss is such punch to the gut, you’d think the point of the game was that Alex had mommy issues or something.
Unlike previous games, homecoming is entirely male-focused (which is fine), brotherly and paternal relationships are kinda at the forefront, so why hamfist all these feminine monsters and themes? Because they’re trying to be every previous silent hill game at once. It’s a shame, I think some of the designs are actually quite good. Too bad they came from such a shit game.

My main issues with this game and the ones moving forward were the crap story and the shift from a survival horror puzzle game with some combat to what basically just amounts to a a horror action series. Action with bad combat. Oh and of course the stupid inclusion of Pyramid Head. Yeah he's popular but using him for anything outside of what he was suppised to be severely takes away from his appeal.

Silent Hill downpour shouldn't even be considered a SH game. Silent hill 4 the room is where the franchise started to plummet.

I know that the creators of Silent Hill were heavily influenced by Jacob’s Ladder, but Homecoming almost plays the movie beat for beat. Where James wore a military jacket as an homage, Alex IS Jacob Singer. (And yes I know Homecoming pulls from the SH movies)

I never finished this game. I kept dying right at the beginning so I turned it off and went back to left 4 dead 2 🥴

Besides Pyramid Head being in this game, i actually liked this game. The soundtrack was great and it had some creepy environments. But, i didnt like the combat. 2 and 3 will always have the best combat to me. It seems the game tried to be modernized with the, over the shoulder perspective but… i dont think that camera angle works good for Silent Hill or Resident Evil.

I wish they would stop recycling the popular monsters. I love the idea that silent hill reflects your sins or insecurities and therefore pyramid head or the nurses should stay with james (and his other weird monsters like the 2 pairs of legs). This setup of silent hill being your own nightmare, being percieved different by every person who is there, leaves so much creativity. Look at the tonal difference between SH1 and SH2. The world of 2 is much less bloody, and has a rather somber feeling. A feeling of depression and hopelessness. Which fits james fine, but wouldn't have worked for harry who has a much more gory and brutal looking nightmare world, the world of the alessa which is why it's like that in 3 again. But then there's SH4, which once again differs even though it has connections to the cult. It's walters world now. Instead of using this brilliant setup that allows for so much creativity, they decided to go the creatively bankrupt route of turning this game into a stream of tropes that fail to be thematically coherent. It's a damn damn shame.

i will say the 2000s had a lot of brown and depreesed color pallets in videos games sadly

This game was a lot more of a horror game then the Resident evils that came out at that time. It was a solid horror experience.

Are there a lot of people here that have only lived in big cities and have no idea what it is like to be from a small town with people who never leave.?

First four Silent Hills were all amazing games, when they changed the development team responsible and it was no longer the original japanese team things went downhill. 5 and 6 are really not great...

Sorry but homecoming didn’t even feel like it was a silent hill game. They saw a brilliant psychological horror game series that created atmospheric horror and gave a sense of dread without the use of jump scares through ominousness and morbid symbolism alone which, not to mention, had incredible character arcs and storylines and turned it into some action movie style monster slasher type thing with this game. Hated it.

I like this game because of the memories. Imo, its a good game. I feel this way because ive grown up with Silent Hill. This game was the one i played the most, with my family too. I spent hours with my bros just going through the game and it was just such good memories. I dont care if its bad, or if the story is bad, its a 10/10 to me, and you can fight me.

Feel stupid after seeing this. I played up until the doll boss, kept dying and stopped playing the game years back. Wish I'd known about the game breaking spam attack.

Some gamers didn't understand the real plot of this game, this game is very similar to Jacob's ladder, I suggest watched this movie before played this game, because will clear up, what is going on in this game. This game is about brotherhood, but also when in a family, brothers are a shelter for the abusive behaviour of the parents, for Alex his only family is Josh. This game isn't similar to SH2 at all, that's why is important to watch Jacob's ladder before. Even Jacob's ladder started with a homecoming.

The thing about the game i didnt like was that i wasnt scared that i had to fight the monsters, i was scared of losing health.

This game sucks so much. It's when the SH franchise started spiraling down. Both PH and the bobblehead nurses are exclusive to James, yet they appear here for no reason. They could have made so many interesting monsters based on Alex's PTSD and the cult in Silent Hill, but instead we got some of the worst designs. So lazy.
I thought the story was kind of interesting about sacrificing the children to the cult every 50 years, but they didn't focus on the important stuff. Exploration felt so weak, and the characters in game look more haunted than the monsters.

This was a great game.. ya'll are tripping lol wtf do ya'll want? a large amount of fog that was done on accident to render and load buildings???? then less options to defend yourself??? I don't understand.
