The Corsair was also called the Ensign Eliminator.
ОтветитьHave to watch mute as
your mumbling at 400 mph
Title: F4U-4 Thumbnail: F4U-5 Video: Mostly about the F4U-1s in WWII....
Make it make sense
Really, you can't talk any slower ?????? I love this aircraft but cant handle your over speed in speech
ОтветитьI'm almost 72 years old I fell in love with that when I was a kid something about those goll wings, What a beautiful bird❤❤❤
ОтветитьGood thing the brits figured out how to land it on an aircraft carrier
ОтветитьMy dad flew them. Pretty cool.
ОтветитьThese were made in Stratford, Connecticut and the factory buildings still stand there. Years later it turned into Avco-Lycoming which developed and built the Army Tank Engine for the Abrams.
ОтветитьAs I recall, the name "Whistling Death" came from the sound made by the wing-root mounted oil coolers. Amazing aircraft to see (and hear) first hand!
ОтветитьPretty cool
ОтветитьNo sound of the whistle
ОтветитьA fantastic aircraft, beautifully built!! I never realized how much larger the F 4 U was than the P 51 , wow was I surprised when they where lined up on the same strip , side by side !!
ОтветитьGreat video, thank for that
But there are a couple things which I noticed:
1. you're talking to fast - it's difficult to hear
2. when you said about especial sound of plane, you make a pause, show us a video of plane WITHOUT sound 😂 Do we need to imagine that? I understand that it's challenging to find video with sound but you could do not make this awkward pause with silent video))
More like whistling junk. The F6F was the zero killer. The corsair was tried in europe but was no match for the BF109 and FW190 variants . They fought at 20 to 30 thousand feet and the corsair had no turbo supercharger like the Magnificent P47.
ОтветитьIt was The media that called It whistling DEATH
ОтветитьThe angels of Okinawa are what I really remember them being called
ОтветитьLet me makes corretion to a comment earlier. I said my father was at I2o Jima and Guadalcanal. He was injured at Iwo Jima. He was caught in the middle of 3 Japanese hand grenades. A friend of his head to call every Christmas Eve. He told me that as they were advancing up the beach a hand grenades blew up able 3 ft on my dad's left.bimm3diately followed by 2 kids fight behind my dad exactly. Whee he had bdsm dinning and then able 3 f3et in front of him. The only thing my dad evervsaid was one minute he wasrunning uphill towards a Japanese loll box. The nezt thing he kinda he was looking at a doctor on boaed a hospitalbship. A week later they were headed to the Philipines.
ОтветитьThe corsair is one of the legendary planes of WW2.
There are some planes of this time when you hear their name you have a picture of it in your mind.
P-38 Lightning
Spitfire
Zero
Stuka
Mustang
Thunderbolt
Messerschmitt Me-109
B-17 Flying Fortress
etc...
The most beautiful of the old warbirds!!!
ОтветитьFinally, after waiting since I was a kid, I finally got to see a F4U Corsair not only fly but take pictures up close. I can now die a happy man! Took my kids to the Warhawk Air Museum Air Show in Nampa, ID last weekend where we saw three P-40 Warhawk's, three different P-51 Mustangs (including the Boise Bee), a P-38 Lightning, a B-25 Mitchell, some T-6's and torpedo bombers and of course the F4U Corsair. So glad I took my kids there to hear the 1940's music and watch these warbirds fly right over us.
ОтветитьCannot deal with the narrater's voice...
ОтветитьI got to sit in the cockpit of one of these beautiful fighters. I think it was matched equally by only the P-51 Mustang.
ОтветитьFortunately, many of these wonderful aircraft are still available to be seen flying at numerous airshows.
ОтветитьMy favorite prop driven fighter of all time👍🏼
ОтветитьIf the Corsair was around since 1938, why did it take so long to get in the Pacific theatre?
Ответить11 years is not longer than any fighter. And also not the last piston fighter for American forces. A-1 skyraifer was 12 years and 1945-1957. Jeez you guys.
ОтветитьThis is my absolute favorite fighter of WWII. The design is beautiful, especially the gull wings.
ОтветитьWhy NO reference to Royal Navy WW2 use? RN used the Corsair on its aircraft carriers from 1943 (well before USN), notably in the Pacific from 1944. First time I've given a 'thumbs down'' on this channel. Very superficial program.
ОтветитьThe Corsair is my favorite fighter of any era.
Ответить2 Corsairs take down a KI-45... a they both get Navy Crosses ?
I understand that it was unconventional, the way the enemy plane was taken down.
Still, I don't think it would justify both pilots getting a Navy Cross, along with the plane getting a nickname like "The Angel of Okinawa" for taking down 1 plane.
Pretty damn ridiculous actually.
Sounds like a work of fiction, attempting to elevate the Corsair's status, created by someone who does not understand what The Navy Cross would actually be awarded for.
The narrator needs to slow down his delivery.
ОтветитьI understand the wings go up when not in lift mode, what stops them from going up in lift mode?
ОтветитьI love this plane! What kid in the '70s didn't watch Baa Baa Black Sheep? And see these planes?
I then served and got my VFR pilot’s license. I never flew one, but wish ...
Wow!
Can you imagine that some woman riveted an armored panel in place on a Wildcat so perfectly that she saved the pilots life? Amefican constructors were savagely committed to quality and knew any imperfection could result in defeat for the warriorswho relied kn them. Planes of American builder's tended to survive brutal attacks that obliterated Axis aircraft of lighter designs.
ОтветитьIt was also known as the "Bent Wing Ensign Killer"
ОтветитьNames like "whistling death" are ALWAYS an invention of journalists.
ОтветитьIra Kepford is my man when it comes to F4U1A Corsair air Aces in the Pacifica. He had 16 kills. Amazing Fighter Plane, and my favorite.
ОтветитьWhat a cool airplane.
Comes a close second to the beautiful P-51D mustang.
The F-4u is among some of the most iconic works of art. Like the P-51 and the corvette stingray. You can always find yourself daydreaming about being the cockpit.
Ответить"Whistling Death" seems more like the Ju-87 Stuka with its small propellers on the wings which in a dive would emit a loud,high-pitched whistle intended to panic and terrify those on the ground. The propellers were called "Jericho's Trumpets".
ОтветитьYou sure it’s the longest production run of an American fighter aircraft? Or did you mean propeller driven? Because The F15 might disagree with your assertion what with its currently 51 year production run.
ОтветитьGreat film clips but this narrator has the ""SHAPIRO""78 record player SPEED in talking!!!! Can this 78 speeder be slowed down to 45 rpm's?????
ОтветитьThe Corsair was only used on carriers after British test pilot Winkle Brown, showed them that it was possible to safely land ine on the deck. The US pilots couldn't manage it for some reason.
ОтветитьAt spartan school of aeronautics in 1977 I got to work on the wasp 2800 engine. Can you say goose bumps when it startes!
ОтветитьO Corsair , to byl swietny latawiec .
ОтветитьWhy no mention of the British pilots showing the yanks how to fly it
ОтветитьI dare you to find a better battery than the copper top Duracell. Go ahead, I dare ya!
ОтветитьThey do make decaf you know
ОтветитьSpeed talking. Take it easy when reading🇩🇰
