You guys need to learn the difference in a 3/4 and 1 ton truck. A 3/4 ton truck does not have dual rear wheels, but a 1 ton can be single or dual rear wheels. Also it doesn't matter if the truck is only rated at 10,000 lbs, once you hook up to that trailer then you're over 10,000 lbs and any single vehicle or truck-trailer combination over 10,000 lbs up to 26,000 lbs requires a D class CDL.

I have a CDL but I drive tractor trailers. I don't understand how you have a non CDL set up but have a MC and Dot number?

Cool. I have the 1975 Chevy Silverado C30 1 tone Dually crew cab Camper special. It is rated at the 10,000 GVWR due to it coming with the tow package set-up straight from the factory.

I’ve been looking at federal and state laws and I can’t find ANY exception to the 10k lb gvwr rule. Every law I’ve read so far states that a non-commercial driver cannot tow ANY trailer with a GVWR greater than 10000 ponds. It doesn’t mater what the GVWR of the tow vehicle is. None of the laws I’ve read so far make any exception. I could be wrong, but I’m reading the laws the way you would read a mathematical word problem. Some key words leave no room for misinterpretation. I’m trying to find the law that lets a non-cdl tow a trailer with a higher GVWR than 10000 lbs. I want to reference the law and not some anecdotal stories.

What a great informative video. I obviously did not do my home work first and went out an bought a 2024 Chevy dually.. I figured bigger truck bigger loads, not taking into consideration of the 26k law for non cdl. Shit do I sell my dwr while its only has 4k miles on it and get a 2500 The funny thing is, my GF told me to just get a 2500 to start... :)

The truck sticker also gives the gvwr 24,000lbs
So does that mean I have to get 13450 gvwr and under?

I am starting my own hotshot trucking.. and honestly this helps a lot. I now understand what I wasn't on my set up. You guys gave a thorough look at what is needed and in doing so I can now set up an effective spreadsheet showing the parts going on and get accurate estimates for set up. I honestly can not thank you enough. Tangible information is key and this gave real informationw without gatekeeping.

With the set up you guys have so the total weight of the truck trailer and the load you are hauling can't be over 26000 correct I would like to get some more information on that part please if possible I am looking to get into hotshot trucking

What plates are required for your trucks as far as weights. I currently have the gray personnel equipment plates on my truck so I can legally pull my own campers and that of some friends if needed. Those plates are 209 a year in Wisconsin. The 26 k plates are almost 500 a year in Wisconsin. I was thinking of getting into hot shot or even camper hauling to start with. I do have a CDL bit currently have no fed medical card do to a health issue.
