I just read Hal’s post on Reddit regarding this, the whole process is a lot more intricate than you might think. Based on ILM’s methodology with Tarkin, I doubt there is a group that could have cast better or done better with what they had. The uncanny valley is unfortunately just due to limits in current technology that no one currently can resolve. In the future I look for some new invention to alleviate this issue but for now, be happy we still get Star Wars content to this day. Good work ILM team, I look forward to your next project!

He could play as a young Tarkin!!

ILM you guys did a great job with Tarkin. Your groundbreaking work has led to us now getting to see young Luke again in the Mandolorian and Book of Boba Fett. It's amazing to be able to see old characters that we grew up with come back to life. Much better than trying to cast someone similar-looking and pretending they're playing the same character (like young Han in Solo). Thanks for the work you all do.

Just does not look human. What were they thinking? They should have just filmed the actual actor, for God's sake. He already looks the part. Just all kinds of stupid to do it as CGI.

The mo cap and cg was fine. I'm sick of people bitching about it as if its a crapoy job done by an amateur. Between andy serkis gollum, Mark Rufflalos hulk who were all motion caption characters this pushed the boundaries to photo realist cgi characters in the bug screen.

That moment when actual necromancy would be less disrespectful to the dead.

These videos are never even NEARLY long enough.

It was cheap to bring a deceased actor out to life, for we all know this is not Peter Cushing. Regardless of the technological struggles and merits as shown here by the design team, it was more of a moral dilemn to which the producers failed. Actors are worth not much if their talent is not burried with them. It devalues their work if they are not the own masters of their bodies.

Tarkin looked so real in the movie I swear

Also! Guy Henery already looks very similar to Tarkin. They could have not altered him to drastically and he would have been perfect.

I finally know what makes them look off! Those eyes! They look a bit to fake. Once they have that down things will look even better
