"We can do amazing things!" I'll definitely agree with that, this airplane shows it very well. What I love about it is that despite its size it still flies amazingly well; not as heavy as you might think. It's obvious drawback is that it's clearly not economical at all with 4 engines.

Àlways have been in awe of this plane!! Whoever came up with the subtitle of this video could have done a tad better... "The rise and fall"?! Not really words you want to hear together regarding any airline!!!😁

Boeing cutting costs to increase marginal profit is a detriment to people's safety, people have died because of Boeing's lies.

Avoid flying on Boeing aeroplanes if you value your life.

Fall? No, never. Don’t EVER disrespect the 747 by claiming it fell off! A classic, iconic, gorgeous, durable, versatile and beautiful.

The only overseas flight I ever did was Los Angeles to Nice, France in the 90’s on Pan Am. From LAX to JFK I flew in a 747 for the first and only time ever, it was great, what I’d always imagined flying long distance would be like, I could get up, walk around, climb the spiral staircase and stretch my legs, etc. Anyway we arrive at JFK for a 2 hour layover, I was expecting to get back on that 747 for the much longer leg across the Atlantic Ocean .. but instead they put us on this little Airbus A310 for the trip across the Atlantic, I was like ‘what the heck is this, an Air what ?!’ I’d never heard of an Airbus at that time, it was cramped in comparison to that big ol 747 .. I wasn’t happy, it was crowded and uncomfortable, much bumpier and noisier in turbulence. Today airlines like JetBlue are flying little Airbus A321LR’s across the Atlantic .. that’s got to be loads of fun 😡 lol. No thank’s, if I ever need to fly far away again I’m gonna make sure it’s an A380 or I ain’t going, yeah I know those have ceased manufacturing .. but their suppose to still be flying for a long time I’ve read. Great documentary btw 👍

I flew the 747-400 many times between LAX and AMS over the last 20 years.... KLM, the one seen in the opening of this video.... I have always been amazed how massive this plane is, and how smooth it flies and lands..... Last time I flew one was in September 2019 on a trip back to The Netherlands from California, where I live. I already knew then that this would likely be the last time, as they had announced its retirement in 2021, and with me flying between LAX and AMS about every 2 to 3 years, I figured I wasn't going to fly it another time. Then, the pandemic hit, and they were retired early in 2020. And indeed, on my next trip back to NL, the 777-200/300 were the preferred types to fly the AMS-LAX route. They also have 787-9's flying that route now.

But yeah, I have fond memories of the KL601/602 flight between LAX and AMS. I think I flew the 747 five times, and it was always an experience. It has been my favorite plane since. Never ever made it to the top deck though.

I’ve flown both the 747 and A380. The 380 is way more comfortable as far as space. Just my preference.

Amazing design, and a truly amazing plane. Still the most impressive aircraft in 2023 yet she first flew in 1969!! That's 54 years ago!!! Let that sink in. This is testimony to how iconic and great the design was and still is.

The real question is how many hours of flight time did “Ms. Captain” have when she was hired by people’s express? Affirmative action (female) started in 1965, so my guess is she had very VERY little flight experience. So don’t be patting yourself on the back lady.

I flew on one of the earliest Pan Am trips from Heathrow to Dulles in the summer of 1970 in first class. That sky lounge was a incredible upgrade. The entire 747 was an iconic, majestic beauty!

Boeing Jumbo 747-400 transfixed me whenever... lo and behold.... watched her take off and fly in to land. Huge and beautiful. She brought me from Manila to CDG, France. Then later from CDG to Bali, Indonesia... and then once from Manila to Frankfurt...... if I recall well.... also from Heathrow to Manila. I was at home on a huge plane, the 747.- 400.. She flies me and lands me [without the slightest thud] beautifully, caringly, smoothly, and gently with her four engines. Nostalgically,....she is part of me even with the few times I flew, she stands out perfectly chiseled. I feel it. I have an emotional attachment to the Boeing Jumbo 747 -400. [Air France's, Garuda's, Lufthansa's, British Airways' Jumbo 747 - 400]..

I can understand why the hub-and-spoke model for passenger airline travel was superceded and smaller, more fuel-efficient airliners prevailed. What I do not understand is why the freight-carrying versions of the Boeing 747 and the Airbus 380 became defunct. When it comes to container shipping at sea, the trend to ever-larger displacements continues, because of the economy of scale. Why doesn't the same economy of scale apply to jet freighters?

Long story short, it's too big (now), too old, and and too thirsty... for passenger flights.
The 747-8F will likely remain in service much longer than passenger variants.
