ОтветитьHad them both for a half century. When I was a kid I loved the flat for showing off and hopping. When I got older I like the smooth ride better with the V cutting through the waves.
ОтветитьPlease help me build a Honey Hole ? Thank You!
ОтветитьYou're right dogs are better.
ОтветитьI remember when I 13 or so My Dad built a Flat bottom duck Boat 4 x 12? plans where in a Popular Mechanics magazine. he had small outboard moter from he Nation Preasure cooking Company. I was perfect for the river outin the back
ОтветитьI got a solid 14 foot v hull its like 80 years old and has been in my family for years, im gonna build a floor for it to make fishing easier
ОтветитьI just sold a 14ft wide flatbottom, and regret it now ! I have a 16ft V-Hull but it's up for sale now !
ОтветитьDogs are bettwr
ОтветитьHey Wayne, another Aussie here. Almost all my boating is salt water... in-shore but still subject to wind, tides, and so on so it's a V hull all the way for me... a flat bottomed boat would be upside down in no time. My boat's a 14' aluminium "runabout" (meaning it has forward controls and a windscreen) with a 40HP 2 stroke Mercury which can seat 4 but typically only has two people when I'm fishing. Last time I was I came home in more than 1 meter waves... don't think a flat bottomed boat would have made it back... if it didn't turn over it would have been swamped due to the minimal freeboard.
ОтветитьNorm McDonald knows more about boats than I expected.
ОтветитьI have a deck boat
ОтветитьAny v hull where the front is wider than the transom is junk
ОтветитьI love flat bottom boat
ОтветитьDepends on use.
Cool thing, a flat bottom I can make go pretty fast.
Apply past racing tricks.
Usually turns get them, the chine angle is far to steep for decent turns.
I had one that would fly with just a few inches in the water. Yea, it got hairy
Flat bottom boat ❤️
ОтветитьAfter using both I like the Jon I like to stand and not worry I’m going to fall.
ОтветитьI have had both but at a giant lake that was treacherous, I went through to the other side with a 14 ft with a 15 hp to get to the fishing hole. No way with the flat. You never know when a storm can blow up suddenly. Be very careful loading a V.
ОтветитьI’m enjoying my 14’ trihull
ОтветитьI grew up with a wooden flat bottum boat and I still miss the sound of the waves slapping the wooden bottum. But today I have an aluminum flat bottum boat and I think I prefer the flat bottum over the Vhaul because of the stability it provides. I've owned many boats over the years, flat bottums, V hauls, Speed boat, two man bass boat, but the boat I had the most fun with was a 11' Snark sailboat. I live along the Ohio River which you would not think it would be ideal for a sailboat, but I had a blast with it. I know I am differant, But I like rowing a jon boat. It needed i will use a trolling motor, but I prefer rowing. It is just so relaxing it is hard to beat the pleasure ut provides.
ОтветитьI don't remember where i read it, but my earliest memory about jon boats revolves around the expression "tge more she sinks, the more she floats", describing how, because of the outward sloping hull of a jon boat, it takes an increasing amount of weight to settle it the further into the water it sits because it displaces more water the farther in it sits. In other words, if 300 lbs made it increase its draw by 3 inches, an additional 300 lbs would increase its draw by less than 3 inches.
ОтветитьI just bought a new mercury 9.9 four stroke,I’m going to run it on my mirror craft 12 v hull should be a good little fishing boat on freshwater lakes I live in maine
ОтветитьI myself own a 1
2015 14 foot with a 15 Yamaha and I own 2 other Jon boats and I have a Min Kota and I use that more than the 14 foot just because I like it more
I want to build a flat bottom boat. I have access to large street signs they are made from aluminum. Would that be a good material to use to build a flat bottom boat?
ОтветитьI think the v hulls with a rounded bottom at the back row a lot better. So I see three advantages for V hulls. 1) Better stability and handling at speed. 2) Better in rough water 3) Better for rowing
ОтветитьIm in a canoe! 😂
ОтветитьIn Australia, only serial killers and blokes who play with toy trains own flat bottom boats.
ОтветитьI like my 12 ft 1999 Coleman Ram X Crawdad
ОтветитьIt all depends - V-bottoms have higher sides, and are better for dealing with waves. They will usually haul more weight than a flat bottomed boat of similar size. They are also heavier, which makes them harder to carry in trucks and hand launch in small bodies of water with no ramp. All this does however make them better and safer for large bodies of water with big boat traffic and the potential for waves. Flat bottom boats are smaller and lighter, with a shallow draft. This makes them easier to hand launch and better in shallow creeks, swamps, sloughs etc, where wind and waves are not expected to be a problem. And, being lower and closer to the water, they are easier to fish or hunt out of. 🧐
ОтветитьVery nicely done video Wayne. Well edited as well.
Ответить14 foot glasfiber v-hull
ОтветитьI want to put a huge outboard on a tiny boat. Which is better or more stable for unreasonably dangerous speeds?
ОтветитьI bought a 16’ V-bottom Lowe, 5’ wide sides & 4’ wide floor. I painted it cabala’s hunter green 1: gallon & the 1982 boat Looked brand new. A classmate built a heavier transom from 30h.p. to 60h.p.
ОтветитьI'm Canadian.
V-Hull for me due to their stability on big lakes when the conditions get ugly.
I have a 14" Lund SSV, 20" transom, tiller steer with a 25 HP merc and a 5HP merc long shaft kicker.
It's a great little rig and when it gets ugly I can still safely make it back to the launch.
Nobody brings their cat on a small Jon boat. Dogs, no problem.❤
ОтветитьI use a 1448 for bass fishing and duck hunting with a 25hp suzuki. Wouldnt mind a semi v for fishing tho.
ОтветитьThank you for making this!
ОтветитьI have a 1993 smokercraft voyager with a 20hp tohatsu
ОтветитьMe and my dad own v hole boat
ОтветитьI built a jon boat out of insulation foam and grp. Not polished or smooth. 16’ long 4’4 wide an 1’4 high. Finished weight 211 lbs. 15 hp on the back. Great on the river and nice out to sea on a good day. Can make 20 MPH - gps speed with 2 up. More mph than hp perfect!
ОтветитьI love my v hull have a deck that I put on top of the front seats I need to strip it soon though and redo the whole thing this winter. My wiring isn’t working to my electronics, only thing working is my trolling motor the little lake I like to visit is pretty busy on the weekend. But I can troll it in about 4-6 hours depending on if I’m catching fish anyways. Loved this video by the way
ОтветитьTracker does carry the dead rise to the stern
ОтветитьWhich one is less likely to get swamped when a big boat goes by leaving a big wake it it's...wake?
ОтветитьI have a 16ft V bottom boat. It's great for the small lakes I go on. It is 54 across at the top of the boat. I plan on buying something like a 1860 for going on the Rivers. I RARELY ever take my V on the rivers, they are just to shallow.
ОтветитьWe have both a twelve foot v bottom and flat bottom. The v bottom never gets used and the flat bottom is used all the time. It is certainly a way better for fishing and actually handles quite well with a five horse motor.
ОтветитьA jon boat is designed for calm shallow water. A v hull is designed for rough deeper water. A tri hull (aka cathedral hull, which has flat sections like a jon boat and peaked sections like a v hull) is designed to be a compromise between the two. It handles rough water better than the jon boat and it is more stable than the v hull.
ОтветитьJon boat is the best because I was raised around both and I love 😍 Jon boat. John E.May ❤❤❤
ОтветитьFind a modified v and get the best of both
ОтветитьGreat vid, love the graphics and editing throughout!
ОтветитьI like the V bottom cause I fish rougher waters and the flat bottom I had was just a little to dangerous. My V bottom performs better in these types of conditions.
ОтветитьI use a 12 foot aluminum v-haul row boat with a 2.5 HP to 9.5 HP - Hi from Michigan 🚂
