American Farmer (1954)

I have the greatest respect for the farmers more than any other occupation. They are the true American heroes.

That old N-series Ford tractor, is the first type of tractor I ever operated. Since then, it's been an old Case, International, a big ol' Oliver(9955), a John Deere, two other N-series Fords, and a Belarus. A bucket list item, is to operate a combine.

I remember seeing this film when I was in school. First, in elementary school, and then in high school ag class. And then, recently, after I got my phone, the one I'm typing on now, this film rolled back around.

This is another fanciful video and propaganda for farm subsidies. Most farms even then were controlled by agribusiness.

sub from me man i love these old films. I wish i could have lived back then. Its still kinda similar where i am we bale hay and stuff like that haha but the the lifestyle and the culture has faded a lot. I blame social media. World is too fast to be appreciate the little things now.

That red and white 8N was the first vehicle I learned to drive as a kid in the 80s on my grandparents farm.

I count my blessings every day. That being said.... I look at these vids .... sorry 16mm films and realize.... wow what a wonderfully simple and satisfying life before technology and the internet came along!!!!

Ya, those were some great times, things have definitely changed alot since then, as a 5th generation beef Farmer, the work is still hard, and the long hours haven't changed, but I wouldn't trade it for anything, the crops are mostly the same, just alot more bushels today,
The Farmer's wife, Alberta, a very Cool name I gotta say, it just happens to be the same name of the province I grew up in, and still Farm today, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦

It's hard to believe a contemporary 16 year old city boy could work at a farm nowadays.. he would be out of shape, no motivation, constantly on phone, excuse ridden, confused on gender, etc., and to think neighbors helped each other.. amazing.. This film gives a message: purposeful, simplistic, hardworking life with love, respect, values and morals.

I think that was a much better time in our history. Sure isn’t like the BS we put up with today. And today’s equipment is all junk and way overpriced I have no understanding how a person could ever be a farmer today with all the costs, overhead, and permits/ regulations.

Oh the memories of a time gone by. I wish I were back there now. There's nothing like waking up at grama's house with the windows open and the smell of ripe figs in the air as the lace drapes gently drift back and forth with the wind on a fresh, July morning. Oh, how I wish those times had not changed. But I still have them in my memory, and I'm so grateful for that.
