I have to say, Georgians are amazing people. I was growing up as an ethnic Ukrainian in the Russian SSR. But every time I met a Georgian, it was always a memorable time for me. My father had a best friend who was a Georgian. And he also had a Chechen friend who was named Boris.

I first learned about this region when I ran across a video here somewhere called Ubykh Dance, or убыхский танец (That took a minute. I haven't used cyrillic layout on my keyboard in a while). I've been fascinated ever since.

I have traveled far and wide, and there is a tendency in Western cultures to get rid of the old and the new is all just mud, as we say in the arts about mixed colors - there is no celebration of the differences between us. My beautiful Russian wife and our daughter will always keep a home there no matter where we are, and a deep connection to these wonderful roots.

If u search ur old roots, hundred years ago, the central assian come to trade to hindustan on Kabul (Afghanistan) peshawar (kpk pakistan) stay her and sell there trade items here. Some women and men married here, now they mix up in local people. ❤❤❤

I think his points are insightful and that this problem of consumerism trumping high culture is happening everywhere in the name of globalization. We are no longer allowing people to express their uniqueness in the name of some sort of empty unity. The people of the Caucuses are unique from other regions of Russia. This is not a bad thing and hopefully the new generation doesn’t trade that for “lots of stuff”.

Thank you for this video. We visited the Caucasus for our summer vacation in 2021 during the COVID time. It was a memorable trip. We was my sister in law Irina, my niece Marina, and my twins, Philip and Isabella, born in St Petersburg and me. We flew from St Petersburg to Mineralnye Vody and then started in Arkhyz. Then we went to Dombai and Pyatigorsk. For me the main focus of our time in Pyatigorsk was Mikhail Lermontov and his great masterpiece, A Hero of Our Time. So of course we took the lift up Mt Mashuk and visited the site of Lermontov’s duel, but best of all was the Lermontov house museum. Then we went to Elbrus and Ossetia and ended our 16 day vacation in Vladikavkaz. So watching your video was a pleasure remembering our great time and it has also made me hungry for Caucasus food. I first visited the Caucasus area in 1977 on my first trip to Armenia. Since then I have been almost everywhere in the Caucasus including many trips to Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. So far I am missing Chechnya and Ingushetia, but hope to soon. I enjoyed your videos from Dagestan (which I also love), and Chechnya, but don’t think you’ve done videos on Ingushetia??
