Not everyone has an iphone. A lot of people still use credit cards even though they have an iphone, including people I know. Becoming completely dependent on a phone is NOT a good idea. What is you run out of battery or your phone crashes or you lose your phone?

If I gotta pull out my physical debit/credit card, I’m gonna be irritated 😂 If a place doesn’t have Apple Pay/NFC then I’m hesitant to buy anything tbh. Some small businesses & food trucks can accept Apple Pay/NFC, if you’re a big business that doesn’t take wireless pay then you’re waaaaaay behind (@KROGER)

I’m finding it rare to find anyone with a bifold wallet anymore. Most people I see have either digital wallet, Apple Pay for example, or have a pair of metal plates which hold your physical cards.
No more cash and no more leather wallets.

Apple needs to have better security than the passcode which overrides the biometric measures as sometimes Face ID does not work either.

I am not an Apple user. I am using an Android smart phone. I use the Google Pay, and it works very well for me. About 15 years ago paying with a smart phone was in prototype. I was able to become a Beta tester with a major bank to be able to access my credit card. There were 1500 participants with this bank. I was participating with a Blackberry Passport phone. They gave me a chip card that looked like a tiny credit card of the same type I have that was on my account. I had to fix the card at the back of the phone in range of the NFC sensor in the phone. When taping the back of the phone on the pay terminal the purchase would be billed to my credit card. To protect the card the phone had to be unlocked using its password.

When using this method of payment many people were not aware or have seen this. Even though the pay terminal indicated "paid" and the receipt came out the sales person called their supervisor before letting me leave. I had a few instances where the supervisor did not trust the purchase and wanted to photo copy my driving permit. I had one manager of a large chain store ask me to leave my purchase in the store till he can verify that the payment actually went through. I had to come back the next day to pick up my purchase.

When I went to dining places where I was known by the people working there I did not have any problems with this pay system. Sometimes a number of people working in the place came over to me to see how this works. They were amazed to see after I made the payment the phone showed on the screen the amount I paid along with the name of the place, and including the date and time. I also received an email copy of a receipt.

I think Apple Pay used to be such an underrated feature! here in Singapore, contactless payments were quite common pre-pandemic, but the pandemic pushed its importance even more, and I think most people saw the true value of its convenience.

I’ve been using Apple Pay since 2017 and as a teenager back then, it was super helpful when my parents asked me to buy food or something from the supermarket and not have to ask for money to get it. I just used their card I saved on Apple Pay on my phone, when I get the message to buy something, just tap my phone and I was done! it’s such a nice feature to have!

fast forward to 2023 now, I can afford to leave the house with just my phone, I just have my MagSafe wallet for transit and a school card, my cards on Apple Pay and I’m so glad a lot of places accept it now!

I dont know about you guys but, when apple pay came out in 2016 ish, I used it pretty much every time. The only problem was a lot of merchants didnt support apple pay so I literally pioneered and mocked and made them feel stupid whenever they said they didnt support apple pay.

Contactless payment is still fragmented in the US. Especially when big retailers such as Home Depot doesn’t allow it and Walmart is pushing their on contactless with walmart pay.

The financial tech in the US is far behind Europe and other countries when it comes to contactless payments. I remember seeing people in England/Canada paying with contactless cards before the US had the chip (which Americans thought the chip was the newest thing). The English even pay with their regular contactless credit/debit card at the subway "tube" without having to purchase a dedicated ticket/subway card. The Chinese all pay with WeChat from their cellphones, and hardly carry physical cash or card.

Australian retail stores already had contactless systems before Apple Pay so it was amazing in 2015. It’s so weird that America was so far behind. Australian consumers hardley use physical cash.

It's interesting to see how contactless payments are not that common in the US (although it has improved over the last couple of years), some people would be surprised by me paying with my phone. I am European, live in Madrid, Spain, and have been using Apple Pay for around 4 to 5 years. I believe almost 99% of businesses accept apple pay, and I would say 100% of those who accept credit cards. I found a big difference in restaurants too, I always pay with apple pay in restaurants which is not common in the US (at least in New Orleans where I've lived)
