Super Mario 3D All-Stars is Pathetic

I feel like some people are confused about this, but to be clear: the ONLY reason I bought this is because I was making a video on it and wanted to be accurate. I wanted to make sure that I played the official version of the game and noted all of its problems. Otherwise, I most certainly would not have bought it. Even said as much pre-release, before I thought about writing a script.

I'm fairly certain I bought this on sale.

The sm64 pc port is still around if you look around for everyone’s information! Not defending Nintendo I’m just letting everyone know if they still want to play it.

I know this is 3 years old but I’m going to explain something many of us have caught onto. Game companies are moving away from hardware and moving towards the licensing model to make money. Consoles in the past have been sold at a loss and rely on licensed games and exclusive to make a profit. With newer tech they’ve decided to go strictly software with licensing.

This means they need to gradually move consumers towards digital purchases rather than physical games. Xbox tried to do this prematurely with its botched XBone release saying you can’t loan games out and the game is attached to your gamer profile once you buy it. But don’t think gaming composites haven’t forgotten. They’re slowly doing the exact same thing now.

The other day I was at Gamestop and saw a physical copy of a PS4 game for $60. I knew I had bought it on sale on my Switch as a digital copy and I always save pdf receipts. I paid $7.85 after tax. Not $60. Oh it was Cuphead btw. Plus I got the full DLC on Switch, & the PS4 hard copy was only base game.

You can see other examples if you look. Digital games are more and more frequently a better bargain for the game itself. If you only want to PLAY but not OWN.

Additional content such as art books, instruction booklets in game boxes, and in some cases even a functional game (Cyberpunk) are becoming a thing of the past. If you want deluxe box sets you’ll have to pay a premium or make your own. In fact I encourage designers to create homemade instruction books for download so I can FedEx Office print it and make my physical copy game a better item to own.

Nintendo is the Apple of gaming. Pure greed.

The annoying thing about this is I personally do not even want this collection, but if I did, I have a few ways to play these games. I kind of have no choice if my kids are going to play them, since they're not going to be venturing off the Switch at this point, and these are the perfect games once they get sick of Odyssey. Real problem is they stopped selling them digitally, so now, I have to spend $80-90 on ebay. Thanks Nintendo for not even being willing to take my money.

I know i'm what? 3 years late? Pretty much, but looking back on this, i feel like Nintendo mostly gets away with it because... they're Nintendo, if you get what i mean. They're one of, if not the biggest gaming company out there and since they make games for all ages, as long as sales are booming then they probably don't care if the product is bad or good.
Even their policy with bugs in their games is just as bad, and for this i'd like to "quote" a video from Ceave Gaming, where he mentions exactly that Nintendo never asks if bugs that fans found add something to their games, but instead they ask if it was intended, basically implying that Nintendo wants you to have fun only if it's how they intended it

The only reason I bought the game was to play Sunshine legally. That’s it, looking back it might have been one of the biggest wastes of money I’ve ever spent on a game. I feel ashamed.

I only got this game with pre order so I could play Mario galaxy, completely agreed with everything said in this video Nintendo is fucking up big time

They definately didn't put in effort because they knew it would sell. They've held Mario Sunshine (& Galaxy to a degree) hostage because that means whenever they need a shit ton of money, they can just release them with the lowest effort possible. They are now doing the same with Galaxy 2.

The fans and modding community put more effort and love into these games more than the developers these days. I’m looking at you also GTA definitive edition

For someone who only owns a Nintendo Wii thus having access to only Wii and GameCube games, and currently only has Super Smash Brothers Brawl.... I would totally get this package just to be able to play Galaxy without forced motion controls. I'm a PlayStation guy and have only tried to get into Nintendo again for about a week now, because no matter how you look at it Nintendo are still the kings of platformer games.

This has nothing to do with literally anything, but your voice kinda sounds like Badger Goodger’s voice, he has a channel that covers GTA and Rockstar in general.

Also your voice would work really well in something like a visual novel, or even something horror related. It’s nice and deep, but a welcoming kind of deep y’know? For pre orders of 3D All-Stars you got some stickers, let us all remember that Nintendo cares… Why the hell does Walmart always get the cooler pre-order bonuses in NA? I mean you shouldn’t pre-order games, it’s mostly just a scam, but is it just because they pay the big bucks that they get the cooler things? GAMESTOP GETS STICKERS! Splatoon 3 got a plush at Walmart, Wonder got a poster, Wonder also got a shadow box at Target so good on you Target, the only game GameStop got anything good for was Tears of the Kingdom where they got a wooden plaque. It’s the size of the game case though so it was a little disappointing. Walmart got a wall scroll, two of them depending on when you pre-ordered.

All of this to say Nintendo has been shafting us for a long time when it comes to pre orders, I remember back in the early to mid 2000’s you could get a lot of cool shit by pre-ordering Nintendo games at GameStop, Pokémon games especially those statues were amazing.

Nowadays it s god damn gamble if you’ll get anything good, let alone anything at all since some games don’t have bonuses for pre-orders.

I am still playing the original versions of the games because the controls are better then the switch version. Specially with Mario Galaxy and Sunshine

Nintendo died with Iwata.
Since his passing, Nintendo has only made a terrible succession of selfish decisions. They slowly lost their customers trust and now they are nothing but a joke. Anyone in the industry makes fun of them and expect nothing. Whenever they deliver a good product, people are genuinely surprised instead of “As expected of Nintendo.”
It’s sad how one of the biggest companies is now a shadow of its former self living off milking their past success and occasionally pulling off a great work.

The fundamental question here... Why would I purchase 3D Allstars when I can just emulate them for free, at higher resolutions.

Thats like asking why would i purchase this dvd of Jurassic Park when i can download it in Blu-ray quality with bonus features off the internet?

Well when you frame the question like that, the answer becomes obvious. But its the wrong question. The question is based in arrogance and entitlement. I could see a spoiled 12 year old asking that question.

I love emulation, i have all 3 of these games on my computer, but...

1. Not everyone emulates.
2. Not everyone wants to emulate.
3. Not everyone can emulate.
4. Nintendo is allowed to sell their own work.

Someone on here pointed out the so-called "irony" that nintendo doesnt like their games being emulated and downloaded for free, yet uses emulation technology to run these games on the switch.

Sorry, but there are exactly zero things ironic about that. The irony is on the entitled gamer who emulates and then complains when Nintendo sells their own work but it doesnt live up to your standards.

I dont think its THAT bad, its still a collection of legendary games (and 64) portably! But i totally i agree they shoulve done more at THE VERY LEAST galaxy 2. I agree they did the bare minimum but there is still A LOT of value here.

I know this is an old video, but I plan on buying Super Mario 3-D all-stars because let’s face it outside of the original hardware. There isn’t really much options to play the original games and they’re not that bad in terms of ports sure maybe they could’ve spruced up the graphics in each of the ports, a little more, but other than that, these are pretty much the original experience which makes these port audible authentic in my opinion, so I don’t really get or understand why people hate this compilation so much.

I've always wanted to play Mario Sunshine, I wasn't even born when it first came out so I was really hoping Nintendo would release a new HD version of it and.. I bought this collection and all my dreams fade out. The controls are awful, the camera is unnerving, Mario is slippy as hell, I couldn't even finish the game because of those pathetic controls

welp to some people, Nintendo switch flaws are bc of

1. It's a Hybrid/Port, so it won't be perfect. Just like emulators
2. They're testing new things, (as in creating detachable joycons that don't break)
3. Bluetooth Controllers? Bluetooth, Detachable Joycons, on a Handheld?? is crazy.
4. Since the Nintendo switch is obviously a Hybrid, it won't have the PERFECT fps/graphics.
5. Low Effort = Probably Rushed to get it out on May 1st, or Low Effort = Trying their best to get these insanely high graphic games on this New gen consle.

i agree, i was highly disappointed when i seen this collection release thinking it was a remaster of my favorite game SM64, but then seeing that it was a mf port was ass. and then!! seeing it with the subscription got me tightttt

I regret buying a switch

I sold my 3d all stars because the controls were so bad. And playing on small joycons as adult made the game unbearable to play.

SEGA was just on another level back then.

Nintendo is the only company I know that will get upset when you enjoy their products.

Looking back on this, it’s kinda ironic seeing how Sonic origins was a better modern collection of classic Sonic than 3D all stars was for Mario.

I was confused when this game released. They release Super Mario All-Stars on SNES, make a remake of SMB1, SMB2, SMBLL, and SMB3 in that game. When they release Super Mario 3D All-Stars, I thought they gonna remake SM64 but no, it looks the same :(
