When you're at war and in doubt it's best to make ready.
ОтветитьI watch a hundred of war movies in my life, but this movie ist the best👍
ОтветитьMan that sound design when we're introduced to Jack. so good
ОтветитьStraight at em Sir!!!!!!
ОтветитьGreat movie, we who worship the books were amazed! 10/ 10!
ОтветитьI love the sound of the drum.
ОтветитьThis is my favorite film. I have seen it, literally, dozens of times. But, one of the things that has escaped me until this very moment is that Hollom was correct. He was the only one to actually notice something, even if he wasn't sure he had seen anything. Though he eventually hesitated, if he hadn't made those initial stirrings in the first place, which prompted Callamy, then the ship would have never gone to quarters and would have been completely unprepared for the engagement with Acheron.
ОтветитьLove this movie .
ОтветитьPoor Hollom
ОтветитьAll I can say here is that when they finally get a clear look at the Acheron, all I could think is "Oh crap...they're fighting the Americans". Thankfully that wasn't the case. That would have made this movie painful to watch. Hopefully the War of 1812 is the last time that ever happens.
Ответитьvery exciting!
Ответитьguys please know that we have all did evil (sin) and we are punished to death and since we do evil and reject God we will go to hell but God lovingly provides a way out through Christ where we can be saved if we trust in Gods work on the cross and turn from our sins with regret tell your sins to God as Christ makes it possible for us to be forgiven (read John 3:16 please)
ОтветитьOne of the best scenes in any movie ever.
ОтветитьThe Irony here is that even though the crew later thought Hollum cursed, and the reason for their misfortune, in spotting that ship when no one else did he actually saved countless lives.
ОтветитьWe shall beat to quarters!
ОтветитьHallways on a ship were all removable to be folded into the ceiling during action, I love the detail of the walls folding away around Jack as he walks through the boat.
ОтветитьI love the return of the king but this film is far far superior
ОтветитьThis movie should be addressed to as Masterpiece, Master and Commander, I agree.
Sadly, shipmates, it didn't receive the additional tot of rum, nor was it mentioned in dispatches, but it nevertheless confims Lord Nelson's words!
A fleet of British ships at war are the best negotiators!!!
Hip-hip!!! Hip-hip!!! Hip-hip!!!
Movies like this with zero female roles don’t win beat picture
ОтветитьIn the book the phantom is American (Yankee built kinda references that in the movie) but that never wouldve played with American audiences so it was changed from War of 1812 to Napoleanic wars
ОтветитьWe should beat to quarters~~!!!
Ответить"WE SHALL BEAT TO QUARTERS!!!"
ОтветитьHollom is so terrified of making the "wrong" decision he can't make any decision at all, which is, in its own way, worse
ОтветитьHearing the drums, the men prepare to fight, and the doctor prepares to operate. Right in this early scene, the movie tells you combat isn't pretty.
ОтветитьLong we’ve tossed on the rolling main, now we’re safe ashore Jack….
Don’t forget your old ship mate. Folly folly, folly, folly, rydo 🇬🇧
This scene is one of 500 reasons I love this film.
ОтветитьBest historical fiction film ever made.
ОтветитьIt is a masterpiece
Ответитьthe first 5 minutes of this movie so incredibly well illustrates the life on board a frigate during the Napoleonic Wars. The details you see during the crewman inspecting the ship at night; little things like the Marine outside the Captains Cabin being rather sleepy at that time of night; the kegs of supplies and the animals there for food and so on. The hammocks all clustered together; slowly swinging with the movement of the ship. And so on.
ОтветитьWhat a lot of the commenters are missing is that in addition to Hollum’s possible sighting of the Acheron through the fog, earlier the lookout on the bow had reported possibly hearing a bell indicative of a passing ship. Hollum had then instructed Callamy to take a sounding (“Five fathoms”) and a sediment sample (“Sand and broken shell”) to determine if the ship was approaching a coral reef and rule out the possibility that the bell was a reef marker. It always bugged me that this wasn’t reported to the Captain as well and it should have provided Hollum more encouragement that beating to quarters was a sound course of action.
ОтветитьSuperb film in many ways. Grossly underappreciated at the time. Naval combat, musical score, acting, cinematography, all at the highest level. And Darwinism too.
ОтветитьIt’s he’s wrong , just call it a drill 🤷🏻♂️
Ответить"We shall be to quarters". A beat is something else in sailing.....
ОтветитьLook at it this way, you call Beat to Quarters and it turns out to be nothing but "smoke & mirrors", the good news is you just gave everyone a great drill and you can evaluate performance based on your call. Now if it turns out to be enemy contact, then you were prepared to fight, either way, you made a good call.
ОтветитьYour officer of the watch, Hollom you must make a decision, we shall beat to quarters
ОтветитьLater in the film when they vilify this character called him bad luck they seem to forget the only reason they're around to do that is because he initially raised the alarm that saved them.
Seems to me he's a good luck charm to have about.
Back before the internet they had to beat to quarters.
ОтветитьNever had to deal with the size of wood splinters these sailors did.
ОтветитьIt's better to be angry and tired than to be dead. Always beat to quarters if you think an enemy ship is nearby.
ОтветитьGod that movie sucked. 🥱
ОтветитьAs stated later in the movie men want to see their officers leading them and not being hesitant since they know that a moment of indecision can see them getting killed. Oh and above all make a decision because the worst thing you can do is not make a decision since speed is everything in early 1800 naval combat.
ОтветитьGreat movie
ОтветитьWe shall be to quarters. Not “beat.”
ОтветитьAll of this history, the ships of the French and the English; the treasures, are strewn all around Nova Scotia.
ОтветитьThis movie is so good.
ОтветитьAs good as war movie as you'll ever see!
