DIY: Hack a Dead Computer into a Burning Laser!

do the old computers have dangerous capacitors like old tv's

I have extracted the laser diode from my dvd multi write drive, I have soldered wire to the + and - leads of the diode, but when i fired it for a few seconds, it glows strong red beam for a while and then turned faint red until it faded away leaving only a very dim red dot. I have an intensive and long experience in electronics, so I'm quite sure I have connected it correctly. By the way, I haven't connected it to a laser diode driver. Is it normal that it fades in just several seconds? If I disconnected it and let it cool for a while, then connected it again and turned it on, it glows powerful and red beam again.

Any help and ideas will be appreciated.

This build is a brilliant idea for people who have good intentions, believe me or not doesn't matter but someone took this build and created a air assisted engraver, again great build BUT there are evil people in this crazy world and I am a victim of the air assisted engraver I live in a mobile home I'll make this short sweet and concise I realized there was no insulation in ceiling it's an old mobile home anyways from 1984 on down they have attics at first I thought I was going crazy until I read the air assisted hack n lo n behold I punched a hole in ceiling found the whole shabang I'm now partially blind, have to get surgery on my arteries from legs I've got all the evidence BUT I won't turn it into any agency which in my opinion are more crooked than than whatever, nope I'm going to catch this evil person then turn him or her into the law enforcement I mean who would believe me if probably be in a mental institution this happened to me at first then my son then my grandson I am now in Neanderthal stage, this world is full of evil people who thrive on harming innocent people use these hacks with good intentions use them for evil and God will give you his judgement.
