I really love this video. I’ve watched it multiple times and like a great movie there’s always something new to learn or watching my favourite part again. Thank you both! I definitely follow rules but now I’m going to test the waters. What’s the worst that could happen right?

I find so many points in this video contentious, or debatable. It makes me want to talk with Matt directly and pick his brain.

That being said, there's a lot of gold in here as well. I've been using the concept of steering a moving ship versus turning the rudder when you're anchored and it's a much bulkier way of saying it's easier to change when you're moving, lol.

The rules concept is a huge one for me - yes many are pointless but the drive to create order and process I think is important and similar to the drive to help others. It relates to communication and the way we interact as a social species. It gives me sanity too haha.

So much interesting stuff here, would love his take on how I'm getting in my own way in my life when I feel like I'm driving so hard, and getting little success

This is definitely a great interview, and then I do agree with him superficially, you are treating your time for rules, but if everyone did as he does society would completely break down

I listened to this as a podcast and it's a Fascinating episode with some life changing key points, loved it!

Maybe it's not the right place to comment this but I'd love if whilst listening to the podcast there were the ability to mark or tag or add a timestamp to parts that one finds super interesting. Like highlighting on Kindle so one can jump back and listen again to those in times of need.

Maybe there is already something out there and I just have to find it and learn how to use it 😅

Great work Ali!!

Parking on the grass. Then you say you’re sorry. But you’re not. “I’m always honest,” was a lie. But it’s fine because you already displayed the reasons for dishonesty. It’s because you know the consequences are lame. Everyone lies. We even lie about not lying. 😂

He mentioned that people like him who have had near-death experiences all seem to have the same mindset as him, making every moment count. It reminded me of a song that Marty Robbins sings called The Hanging Tree. Specifically when he sings:

“To really live you must almost die
And it happened just that way with me
They took my gold and set me free
And I walked away from the hanging tree
I walked away from the hanging tree
And my own true love, she walked with me.
That's when I knew that the hanging tree
Is the tree of life, new life for me”

Is there anyone who really lived who didn’t almost die? Surely there is another way, or life to the fullest is only for the lucky.

There was a lot of good in this talk.
However, I must say, the part where he talks about that he makes parking spots up make him sound like an asshole.
I get the idea: Question rules. Question everything. This is a healthy way of thinking.
But maybe, just maybe, there is a reason behind a rule. Thinking you know better and arguing that only because there is not an official enforcing the rules is very egoistic. Also, reasoning with "you lose time" doesn't make it better.
What if everyone would act like this? Disabled people, ambulances, or just pedestrians (just to name a few) already struggle a lot with wrong parked cars everywhere. We don't need more of this behaviour in this world.
So yeah. Good interview. Also question rules is a good. But the example of making parking spots up? Nah man…

I have a hard time breaking rules. With the example of parking used in the discussion, my thought is always, "Well, I could do this but if everyone did this then it would be utter chaos and in order for this to be a proper way to live it would have to be able to be a consistently. And then that's when choosing to live that way breaks down for me." Though I recognize there will never be a place where no one follows the parking rules...
