What I hated about the show was Ted. Presented as this sweet hopeless romantic looking for love while he was treating women like crap way too often. And don't even get me started on his stuck up new yorker attitude when he was from freaking Cleveland! To me Ted was nothing but a poser from every point of view

Unrelated to the episode, but in the episode “little boys” we see Barney make a deal with Ted about picking up a girl, and the rules for this included no props, later on Barney uses a prob (yoga mat) to set up a chance encounter with the girl, so he lost the bet but the episode says he won, I feel like I’m going crazy here cause no one else has noticed this

i'm sorry, but yal stupid! The show is not about who ends up with whom. It's simply about life and having your favorite people around and value of real friendship. It's literally said almost in every episode. and al the themes in the episode how they supported each other despite their weird dynamics which was pointed out by some of the side characters (and their mere reason were to alienate this group and put their friendship into perspective) . If you take all the stories of each life and separate them all from their friendship every episode should have evolve into Dexter or something. Each of them has stories that could have spiral every character into the abyss.

The fact that Ted tells lily he doesn't want the perfect girl but only Robin...it is a hint about how it would end...although he gets the perfect lady for himself, who, if we can say, is his female version...but still till the end he only craves for Robin and eventually ends up with her.

I loved tracey! I wish she didn't die. And ended up with ted❤

I wonder what the foreshadowing in the “last cigarette ever” was. Future Ted mentioned dates on which each character fully stopped, some more vague than others

Foreshadowing implies long term planning, which can't exist in a season-to-season show...so none of them

Barney says he is gonna teach the kid how to live but in the end it’s his kid that teaches him “how to live”.

The second the Tracy stripper was brought up I knew her name was Tracy before the mother was ever introduced

People miss out on why the ending of this one is hated. It's fine that the mother died, people die. The unforgivable thing was using it as an excuse to get Robin and Ted back together. Also, deatroying Robin & Barney in a 3 minute scene, after convincing us for an entire season that they can overcome any difficulty ("a marriage problem? I guess we cant deal with it.") That was nasty.

Re-watching the scene where Ted races to her apartment to say he wants those extra 45 days after knowing the fate of the mother really hits differently than watching it the first time.😭

In the episode where marshal reveals that in order for him to fantasize about other women he first has to kill Lily in the fantasy
He further adds how Lily dies of a disease that can’t be cured,after they had spent some good time

How about the facts the first you see her at the train the station the funeral is playing.

I actually found the twist before the ending, i just finished the show for the first time a few weeks and you miss the biggest teasing to the mothers fate, when lily and marshall do that quizz to see who would take care of their children in case they die, ted said that he would use a crocodile pupet to tell the kid that he lost his parents, out of no where the camera changes to his future kids with him showing them that pupet and asking if they remember it.... the toy that he would use to inform lily and marshall kids of their demise... i had to pause the episode because i was in shock!

Oh theres one i noticed in season 1. When Victoria leaves for Germany, she says if we are single in the future lets give it another try, to which ted jokingly replies "even if we arent" foreshadowing how he ends up trying to get back with her while shes engaged to Klaus and she leaves Klaus for him.

The scene where tracey's shoes walk into frame. The scene with "The when of it is still a little while down the road, however the where of it" The song that plays is called: "The funeral" which adds a whole different demention to the scene

What about the fact that the song playing when we learn he meets the mother at the train station is called The Funeral?

Is this show good? I have watched like every long running comedy show, From FRIENDS, Parks, Office, B99, Psych to TBBT etc but never saw this one.

The baby one isn’t foreshadowing. They plainly tell you what happens

The fact that we don’t see the mother at home the entire time while he’s telling the story to his kids is also a giveaway.

Another thing that may have been foreshadowing the mother's fate was when he imagined if the woman who left him at the alter hadn't, in that imagine spot with the blonde kids she shows up to give her two-cents on the story. Dude spent like nine years telling this story to his kids, a story that's purportedly about how he met their mother, if she were still around in their lives I guarantee she'd have shown up at some point in the process to comment on SOMETHING.

Um, the #1 piece of foreshadowing that everyone missed was the endgame of the story. And that foreshadowing started in the very first episode.

Older Ted started by telling us that this was the story of how he met their mom. Everything in the first episode leads up to this moment when Ted pulls the bait-and-switch:

“And that’s how I Met…your Aunt Robin.”

He then proceeds to tell his kids nine years worth of stories that mostly have nothing to do with the titular mom, but a lot to do with their Aunt Robin. The kids even helpfully point this out to everyone, including their dad.

Of course Ted and Robin trying again was going to be the endgame of the story.

How the hell is the headstone that says "Mother" foreshadowing??? We already knew it was a show about meeting the mother... IT'S THE TITLE OF THE SHOW!

I still go back and forth with that ending. Some days i marvel at the adaptability of the storytelling, but most days i think it ruined the series.

You forgot that the music in the background when they first unveil where Ted was gonna meet Tracy. The song is called “The Funeral” by band of horses also foreshadowing Tracy’s death.

every creator wants to be christopher nolan.and they forget that sometimes keeping it simple is the best thing to do.Simple things writers missed are:
1. Tracy and ted go on couple of dates, fall in love, have fights, stick together, get married , have kids,

2. Barney and Robin's marriage was great fir couple of years then then started to fall apart. They file divorce. Then realised they still in love and get back together.

P.S. Yellow umbrella is more romantic than blue horn.

How did robin and ted dancing at James’ wedding foreshadow their ending up together? The wedding was only 1 year later from when the 1st season took place

Yeah I cried when he wanted to spend the 45 days more with her because i knew it meant she was dying. It was so clear.

Tbh could have accepted Tracey dying, Barney and Robin divorcing and even Ted and Robin backsliding as otp by the end. But what made the finale truly nonsense to me was the kids so happily encouraging Robin and Ted to get back together. Their mother died when they were kids and they're reacting like this is some fun juicy gossip 😂😭 there just wasn't enough heart in their performance or the direction for them in that scene/reveal. I lost my mom as a teenager, it's a unique pain you never truly get over. So the way they are just so chill about it makes it seem forced. Making it even less relatable for the ending.

Missed forshadowing details...
#1) The title of the show. The title says that the story is Ted's ("I") and that the mother is a goal, NOT a co-protagonist. It's Ted's story alone.
#2) In "How I Met Everyone Else" 2030 Ted describes how long-standing couples develop a set way of telling the story of how they met before we see Marshall and Lily tell their story. 2030 Ted is telling the story alone, frequently meandering, and clearly not in a set way.

Barney and Robin get married in 2013, NOT 2014. Series 8 ends and Series 9 begins in May of 2013!

I actually loved the ending. Maybe bcoz when I watched it for the 1st time I just binged it within a month or two. It made sense that Ted and Robbin would end up together. But if we are to span the series out through 9 years it might seem otherwise.

You guys missed the scene where future Lily, future Marshall and future Ted get high and Ted asks „Where is my wife“

What about when Ted runs out of stories to tell Tracy? I feel like at that point she already died and Ted was imagining having that conversation with her as a way to cope with his grieving. Also, when she said what mother wouldn’t be at their child’s wedding? And he starts to get emotional. I think it’s because she already passed away.

Hello everyone hates the ending of How I Met Your Mother. There's an alternate ending as well to say is better. I honestly really like both the ending. I like the way you made me feel.
