BIS - Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) | BIS mandatory for all Electronics | Obtaining R-number

The next subject in our #BIS series, is the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). Generally all Electronic and IT products (apart from a few other products) are included in this scheme with a view to protect Indian consumers from spurious and substandard products. CRS is operated under BISS (Confirmity Assessment) Regulation, 2018 (Scheme II of Schedule II) as per the BIS Act 2016.

Manufacturer of any product, which comes under the ambit of Compulsory Registration Order (CRO) are required to apply for CRS.

The first step to get CRS certification is to identify the Indian Standard (IS) under which your product falls.

The process involves:
[1] Documentation
[2] Application filing
[3] Product Testing
[4] Grant of Certificate

On successful testing and verification, BIS will grant a license to use and apply #standardmark with unique R-number on all #Electronic and IT products.
