I'm not Mormon. I do think that the education you got was likely higher than you would have gotten in a secular university, since there are few if ANY rules and regulations. To me it would be way more difficult to learn, but that's maybe just me. I learn better if there are rules, expectations and disciplines to follow rather than as it 'seems' to be nowadays. As someone who married a person who never followed a rule in his life, I admire you and your husband, that you have a disciplined background in common. I do enjoy your videos. My son and I visited a Mormon church here in Ontario Canada, as he'd been chatting with a Mormon missionary online and been invited. It was interesting. The first part of the service a lady spoke and it was all about the new Mormon 'temple' they now have in Toronto, Canada. The second part of the service, after a light lunch, was a teaching by a young missionary from the book of Mormon. It was interesting to us that communion was with water and a cracker. Our next adventure will be to a Jehovah's Witness hall.
Ответитьwe were always told it was called the meat market of the mormon church...don't plan on leaving there not engaged or married..lol
ОтветитьI’ve always wondered if they have to mention the fake Mormon history in history classes
ОтветитьLarge alphabetic characters carved deeply in a rectangular piece of granite at the entrance to B.Y.U. (Provo, Utah) spell out "The World is Our Campus".
With sarcasm, the bully victims parrot their tornentors by saying, "And those that do not like it, can go elsewhere [that is, to another world]".
As a person who just don't like coffee, alcohol and not really interested in sex and because of that was mocked and even harassed so many times I sometimes feel envious of you. But the homophobic and religious part is so bad 😢. Why can't we have safe space for boring non-drinkers without that ideological stuff? 😢
ОтветитьLack of coffee will kill me.
ОтветитьObviously, as an atheist who never was an official part of any religion (besides being low-key coerced into doing a catholic first comunion by a teacher, but I've never set foot inside a church for mass since that), I wouldn't be able to get an ecclesiastical endorsement.
But how would any other practicing religious person get an endorsement? Because a lot of the questions are very specificaly mormon. Would their religious leader have to lie? "Yeah, as a [insert religion here] we believe in the book of Mormon"?
Assuming one would want to go to BYU, of course. But Alyssa mentioned Sikh students at BYU, so I just wonder how it can come to pass.
QUESTION: I hear "non-Mormon students" yet with all the Ecclesiastical Recommendation etc cetera, how would a non-Mormon ever get in?
ОтветитьWhile sex outside of marriage may be frowned upon, most churches will not kick you out for it; at least those in the Western World; unless the US is an exception. Go to France where kissing people on each cheek is common practice and other countries where even three is done. My goodness, all those Catholics or Protestants breaking the 'law of Chastity'.
ОтветитьI obtained an honor code t shirt when I went to BYU and I cut the sleeves off to work out in lol
ОтветитьAlyssa's ignorant & rebel of, THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS is, obvious.
ОтветитьWow, Alyssa's extreme ignorant, rebel at, THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST is, obvious.
ОтветитьI wondered why the university wasn't called Joseph Smith "U"because Brigham Young was probably involved in the Mountain Meadows Massacre, where 120 men women and children who murdered by Mormons! I realize Smith was probably busy with ALL of his "Lady Friends"
ОтветитьI'm watching this while drinking coffee lol so no, plus having premarital sex is a must for my own life guidelines
ОтветитьCan a Muslim attend Birmingham Young university?
ОтветитьGee, I had no idea there was a "Jonestown" in Utah!
Ответитьwtf byu and vibrators lmao
ОтветитьI'm sure the students are varying levels of good people but the institution itself is rotten and disgusting, that highlighted text about sending victims to honor code investigations turned my stomach, these people are evil. It's always those that cloak themselves in righteousness that are the most nasty, most people are who they are and people try to be good and empathetic however when you have righteous indignation on your side you can be so nasty and evil people can live in their malice and feel superior for it, it's almost psychotic.
ОтветитьNot allowing beards in a university founded by and named after a guy with a humongous beard is kinda funny.
ОтветитьPentagram tattoos, nordic viking tattoos, facial piercings, chronic sarcasm, dark humor... I don't think i even qualify ...
ОтветитьAsk your doctor if BYU is right for you
Ответить'in the same way elementary schools have police officers'
Ah yes, America
Hi, Among these 2,600 comments I highly doubt anyone will see this, but anyway.
I've gotten as far as the "snitching" rules of the "University". I'm from Europe and are closer to retiring age than college age and my thought about all this is: Is Stasi running this alleged educational body? and Stalin had nothing on these people.
How come that this kind of educational institution, tax funded or not, and with the authority to graduate students, don't have an obligation under Federal Laws to not discriminate due to sex, religion, disabilities (I don't know if not being able to think for yourself should be counted of not) or all the other protected parties? What would happen if someone would Federally sue for reach of those laws? Or even federally pursue a criminal case against the school? There should be plenty of criminal behaviour and manny breaches of federal laws to choose from. Just pondering with my knowledge of the US legal system, patchy as they are.
Another question I have is: Why can't you transfer your credits to a different University when this one on longer suit your beliefs? As the Lady mentioned, she could use her degree outside the church's reach without issue, so shouldn't you? And wouldn't be the best outcome for BAU's reputation too, if unruly young adults would transfer out form them, to some place far away? I am trying taking into account their missionary mindset too, so even if they loose one or two, at least they won't be a bad influence on the rest of the student body. The whole rotting a full loft of apples saying idea in real life. This is as far as I've gotten. If I feel the need to come back with more questions further along I will come back.
I'm guessing that the school, and perhaps the whole church have opinions on birth control too, heavily relying on those approved white undergarments to do the job. It also sounds like the proverbial notches on the bedpost take on a whole different meaning at BAU, doesn't it.
By the way, if anyone sees this and remembers that I haven't had a visit in a long time. I'm an Existentialist Humanist (you can google it). I've been so since long before I knew the words for it, and there is no use to come trying to get me to change my mind. Unless you are giving me the top Eldest position within the "church" with right to veto every decision, don't come to my door, and I don't play well with others. Also all the phones in the household are NIXed, and I will pursue... Yours, Ann
I am not Mormon (Catholic) but have lived in SLC area for more than 35 years. My children have gone to public schools. My oldest daughter has her doctorate in psychology from UofU, and practices (LGBTQ THERAPY) now at the VAMC Honolulu. I married an inactive Mormon from a very Mormon family (mainstream) with subtle strains of polygamy. I found a video you put up and subscribed. I have enjoyed all that I heard. A lot of it I have been aware of. My experiences with The Church have not been good in general. Of course I have had a few really good experiences. Mostly from really great individuals, not institution. I applaud the gentleness toward the Church that you use in your videos, all things considered. Your video on teaching was especially insightful. I’m sorry it wasn’t for you. The loss is our children’s. There should be more like you. Teachers pay is criminal. You do seem to be healing, well adjusted and moving on. I look forward to future content.
ОтветитьWho cares. What Engineering degree pays the most? That's a concern. Respiratory therapist a good trade?
ОтветитьI once stayed the night at a girls dorm at BYU. I had no idea she could have been kicked out for that. We didn’t even hook up we just fell asleep watching a movie. That’s crazy how strict they are.
ОтветитьAs I was listening to this I kind of started to forget BYU students are adults. They are being treated so much like children I genuinely forgot. I almost went to BYU because they have a supposedly good film school. So glad I ended up not proceeding with that. Even if I did I probably would have got denied because I would be able to get an ecclesiastical endorsement.
ОтветитьWhere do you think we go when we die?
ОтветитьI can proudly say I'm the exact opposite of what BYU is looking for haha
ОтветитьBeing European I don’t understand how the Federal Government allows this "university" to exist and operate. Americans deserve freedom from religion and need to be protected from destructive cults
ОтветитьI've thankfully never been to BYU, but I knew a friend of a friend who was at BYU... as a gay man. With his boyfriend. They moved to Utah so he could do his graduate degree there. To this day, I don't understand why he went there. Hope they made it out okay.
ОтветитьI didn't watch the whole video, did you talk about how BYU is essentially a glorified money laundering scheme?
ОтветитьI was going to share this video with someone who needed to see this but sadly the vibrators advertisement makes that impossible. 😅
ОтветитьNot Mormon but I’ve been applying to graduate programs around the country and this is a good reminder that maybe I should REALLY THINK ABOUT the religious schools I’ve thought about applying to and if they’re anything like BYU. I’m queer and currently living with my same-sex partner. Pretty sure I should really check if that won’t screw me over while working on my masters.
Ответитьhaha the most intelligent mormons leave
ОтветитьAlyssa I applaud your bravery stepping out and explaining the LDS belief. You are clearly hurt and your feeling of sadness and betrayal is well justified. I pray for your healing .
ОтветитьHow are scientific fact, that go against Mormonism taught in science classes? I.e. evolution, big bang, DNA of native Americans,…
ОтветитьCan you do a video talking about how there's so few black Mormons? I grew in Texas , but been living in Utah and Wyoming for about 15yrs. And I'm black. Ive never met a black Mormon the entire time I've been living in this area. The home of Mormonism
ОтветитьWhen I was coming to terms with being gay, I read a lot about how gay students would be threatened with losing all their credits and how certain church leaders who I'd thought were nice advocated electroshock therapy for gay BYU students.
That being said, after my mission I stayed in BYU apartments for a few months and applied to the school. When they rejected me I had this feeling like I'd dodged a bullet and moved back home
Curious how these rules extend to their athletes..? Pretty sure the entire football team are not Mormon..
ОтветитьAs a gay guy that sounds legitimately dystopian.
ОтветитьThis is like when the test only has 5 questions, but each question has 5 parts
ОтветитьProvo police used to report all rapes to the BYU Honor Code. When i was there in the early 1990s
ОтветитьLolol the sponsorship ad lolol
ОтветитьIronically I think I pass almost everything on there without being a Mormon, even down to I hate drinking coffee 😆
Only ones I miss are stuff like believing Joseph Smith or believing the book of Mormon.
